Consultant Cardiology
Posted 2 hours 52 minutes ago by NHS
Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced and motivated Consultant Cardiologist to join our expanding countywide cardiology team. This is an exciting time to join us: our merged Trust now brings together acute, community, mental health and diagnostic services, providing one of the most integrated health systems in the UK.
You will join a friendly team of 17 consultant cardiologists, supported by specialist nurses, advanced physiologists, and a strong management and research infrastructure.
Your main base will be Yeovil District Hospital, recently expanded with a 15m government investment and home to our brand new state of the art Diagnostic Centre (opened January 2026). You will also work across our county-wide sites, helping to shape high quality cardiology care for our population.
Main duties of the jobIn this role, you will contribute to the delivery of high quality General Cardiology services, including ward rounds on the ACCU and cardiology ward, alongside managing approximately three outpatient clinics per week and triaging referrals. You will play a key part in developing and improving inpatient pathways to enhance patient flow and reduce length of stay, while also delivering subspecialty clinics aligned with your expertise and the needs of the service. The post includes active involvement in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate trainees, as well as participation in clinical governance, audit, and research activities. We welcome applicants with any subspecialty interest; while an interest in imaging is desirable, it is not essential.
