Main duties of the job

The Anaesthetics Department provides comprehensive elective and emergency services across various surgical specialties, including maxillofacial, ENT, general surgery, gynaecology, urology, breast, colorectal, and ophthalmology. The Barnet and Chase Farm sites feature 15 operating theatres, interventional radiology, cardiology, endoscopy suites, labour ward, pre-operative assessment clinics, chronic pain sedation, and ECT for the Mental Health Unit. Our standalone elective surgical hub at Chase Farm Hospital, opened in 2019, exemplifies regional excellence in elective surgery. The hospital is digitally advanced and paperless, achieving elite digital status as a HIMSS 7 hospital in 2022.

Person Specification Values
  • Demonstrable ability to meet the Trust Values
Education & professional Qualifications
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
  • FRCA or equivalent diploma
  • CCT (or equivalent) with entry on the Specialist Register for Anaesthesia within six months of the interview date
  • Teaching qualification
Clinical Skills, training, and experience
  • Completion of appropriate higher training units to fulfill all job requirements
  • Ability to assume full and independent responsibility for patient care across a broad scope of anaesthetic practice
  • ATLS/APLS certification
Teaching Experience
  • Active participation in teaching and training medical and paramedical staff
  • Recognition as an educational supervisor meeting GMC standards
  • Extensive experience in medical education, including regional teaching
  • Formal educational qualification
  • Life support course instructor
Clinical Governance
  • Consistent engagement with clinical audit
  • Commitment to ongoing medical education
  • Reflective practice
  • Understanding of NHS management and evidence-based practice to improve patient care
  • Leadership in anaesthesia/critical care
  • Involvement in clinical research, presentations, and publications
