Overview

Stantec has an exciting opportunity for an Energy & Sustainability Consultant / Senior Consultant to join our dynamic Building Performance team in Reading or London.

We are seeking someone passionate about sustainability who can help create efficient buildings, heat networks and reduce operational energy, delivering social value and responding creatively to people, places and the environment. This role offers the chance to join a reputable group with a strong forward workload and to work on projects across public and private sectors, nationally and internationally.

You will play an important role within our team by supporting the creation of energy models and the production of sustainability and energy strategies to help clients make informed decisions about their buildings and energy systems. The role is varied and challenging, with opportunities to learn from the wider group and advance your career.

Responsibilities
  • Support creating energy models and producing sustainability and energy strategies for clients.
  • Contribute to projects involving energy efficiency, heat networks, and reduction of scope 3 emissions.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on a range of public and private sector opportunities.
Qualifications
  • Degree in a relevant subject (physics, geography, chemistry, or engineering; building services or mechanical engineering preferred).
  • MSc in Sustainability or Environmental Management is advantageous but not essential.
  • Ability to translate abstract concepts and technical requirements into clear, practical solutions; comfortable with research, self-directed learning, and data-driven approaches.
  • Strong report writing and presentation skills.
  • Experience with software tools: IESVE (ApacheHVAC and overheating analysis), SAP and/or SBEM for building fabric analysis, and OneClick LCA for embodied carbon assessment.
  • Familiarity with CFD, hydraulic and energy network modelling, microgrid analysis, renewable energy modelling, Python for data analysis, and data visualization tools (PowerBI or Tableau) is beneficial.
  • Understanding of SBTi, UK building regulations (e.g., Parts L, O, S, F, CP1) and sustainability assessment frameworks (BREEAM or NABERS UK).
