Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria

• Registered with the GMC
• Licensed to practice
• CCT in Anaesthesia (or expected within 6 months of interview) or on Specialist Register with GMC (or expected within 6 months of interview)
• Advanced Training Module in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia as part of CCT or equivalent experience and expertise in Cardiothoracic anaesthesia
• Testamur status in Perioperative Transoesophageal Echocardiography (PTE) with British Society of Echocardiography (BSE), European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI), National Board of Echocardiography (NBE) or equivalent

Desirable criteria

• Certification in Perioperative Trans-oesophageal Echocardiography (PTE) with BSE, EACVI, NBE or equivalent
• Fellow of Intensive Care Medicine (FICM) or equivalent qualification/ experience and expertise in Intensive Care Medicine
• Further relevant degree/diploma
• Teaching qualification/Higher qualification in medical education

Experience Essential criteria

• Evidence of an ability to develop effective working relationships, on an individual and multi-disciplinary basis with all levels of staff
• Evidence of working with management and clinical colleagues to improve a service
• Values partnership with other agencies
• Evidence of teaching and training of post/undergraduate clinical staff
• Evidence of initiating, progressing and completing audit

Desirable criteria

• Development and commissioning of anaesthetic services
• Evidence of research in Anaesthesia

Skills Essential criteria

• Effective leadership: ability to take responsibility and demonstrate leadership when appropriate
• Understands the importance of effective Team Working with all levels of staff, take time to listen, understand and involve people; receptive to appropriate change.
• Understands and can apply the principles of Prudent Healthcare
• Excellent interpersonal skills - ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) with patients, colleagues, relatives and staff; communicate openly and honestly and explain things clearly
• Understands information systems and technology
• Clinical Skills - General Anaesthesia, Obstetric Anaesthesia, Emergency Anaesthesia

Desirable criteria

• Demonstrates learning in Improvement science and methodology, ability and drive to use information and experience to improve the service.
