Job Description
The Opportunity

The NB&ER team has overall responsibility for ensuring that all policies and processes involved in taking on new clients and matters are adhered to, and work is accepted in accordance with the firm's risk management procedures.

These include carrying out conflict checks, client approval, matter inception, financial crime and anti-money laundering checks, tracking of client terms and retainers, and monitoring information barriers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage conflict checks on every new matter globally to identify and resolve legal and commercial conflicts of interest.
  • Review each new client and matter opportunity through analysis of internal and external information sources and advise partners globally on conflicts and information barrier management.
  • Identify wider risks such as reputational, sanctions, financial crime and commercial conflict issues through Matter Risk Assessment.
  • Advise partners and lawyers regarding conflict check results, processes and policies.
  • Liaise with the Financial Crime team on the Matter Risk Assessment.
  • Ensure close working relationships between the London team and the Sydney team, facilitating smooth handovers.
  • Contribute to building an effective and mutually supportive conflicts team globally.
  • Influence the design and optimisation of conflicts and information barrier management technology and projects.
Key Qualifications / Skills / Experience
  • Law degree/LPC.
  • At least a year of work experience in a professional services environment in this field (consideration for those with less experience who demonstrate the required competencies).
  • Understanding of the legal and professional regime applying to conflicts of interest and confidential information; knowledge of US conflicts rules is an advantage.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent commercial awareness.
  • Ability to prioritize workloads and manage multiple tasks.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work autonomously, and to communicate clearly, verbally, in writing and face to face with staff at all levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and research resources.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
