The OpportunityThe Chief Governance Office is a directorate within the Group with a mission of ensuring that the highest standards of excellence are maintained in the delivery of risk management, governance, legal, compliance and company secretarial activities and initiatives. The Compliance Senior Specialist will take a leading role in strengthening and embedding EirGrid's enterprise wide compliance framework, ensuring robust adherence to statutory, regulatory, market, and internal governance obligations. Acting as a senior subject matter authority, the role holder will advise executives, senior management and business units on complex compliance matters, coordinate regulatory engagements, and lead continuous improvements in compliance culture, controls, and reporting. They will champion best practice governance standards, drive the evolution of compliance processes, and play a key role in ensuring EirGrid continues to meet its obligations as a critical national infrastructure operator.
Key Responsibilities Compliance Leadership and Advisory- Act as a senior internal authority on compliance matters, interpreting complex regulatory, statutory and internal governance obligations and advising functions accordingly.
- Lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of EirGrid's compliance frameworks, policies and assurance activities.
- Provide authoritative guidance on complex or emerging compliance issues across energy regulation, grid operations, data protection, procurement, market codes and corporate governance.
- Drive accountability through executive reporting, compliance dashboards, and influencing decision making at the highest level.
- Lead organisation wide compliance risk assessments and support integration with enterprise risk management processes.
- Oversee compliance controls testing, assurance reviews, and mitigation programmes, including escalation of significant risks or breaches.
- Support governance reporting and contribute to executive dashboards and Board level compliance updates.
- Engage with regulatory authorities (e.g., CRU) on compliance matters, where appropriate, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
- Coordinate EirGrid's compliance with relevant licences, regulatory authorisations, market codes, and legislation.
- Support regulatory audits, inspections and inquiries, ensuring clear documentation and evidence of compliance.
- Develop and maintain compliance policies, standards, and procedures, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practice.
- Lead high impact compliance projects and contribute directly to the development and refinement of EirGrid's enterprise wide compliance frameworks.
- Review and advise on business plans, transformation programmes and new initiatives to seek compliance by design.
- Act as the lead and trusted advisor to senior management on compliance risks, compliance obligations and emerging regulatory trends.
- Build strong relationships across directorates to embed governance and compliance principles into core business processes and decision making.
- Drive compliance training, awareness and culture building initiatives across the Group.
- Promote continuous improvement, identifying opportunities to enhance compliance monitoring, reporting and controls.
- Oversee breach assessments, investigations and response activities, escalating significant issues to senior management.
- Monitor regulatory and industry trends, championing innovative solutions to strengthen governance, transparency, and operational resilience.
- Minimum of 5 7 years of experience in compliance roles, with at least 2 years in a senior management or leadership capacity.
- Qualified to degree level or professional qualification in a relevant discipline.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills with ability to interpret complex legislation.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including experience influencing senior leaders.
- Experience in policy development, compliance assurance, and regulatory engagement.
- Professional certification in compliance, audit or risk management is desirable.
- Ability to multi task and prioritise under pressure of deadlines, whilst working independently.
- Prior experience working in the energy industry and/or a regulated environment is helpful, but not essential.
