As a Green Communities Urban Ranger, you'll play a key role in an innovative and exciting partnership between Plymouth City Council (PCC) and the National Trust (NT). Green Communities focuses on hyper-local urban engagement to encourage community greening, increase nature recovery, and promote improved health and wellbeing through nature connection.

This role is based in the West of the City, with a focus from Stoke / Keyham to St Budeaux.

Salary: £27,612 per annum

Contract: Fixed term contract until 31-Mar-2029

Hours/ working pattern: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, generally working Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm, with occasional working outside of core hours for activities happening during evenings, weekends or bank holidays. You'll be embedded and managed within PCC's Natural Environment Service.

What it's like to work here

Green Communities is based around West of the City, Devonport and Central Park. Embedded in each neighbourhood is a duo made up of a NT ranger and a PCC ranger. They are friendly faces who work alongside local residents, schools, businesses, social enterprises and community groups. From street planters to larger parks, they listen to community ideas and support them to make nature improvements happen!

What you'll be doing

Your role will include running creative nature-based activities with a variety of groups, supporting co-design and co-delivery of nature-based improvements, promoting green skills and completing ecological surveying.

Who we're looking for

• You'll be passionate about everyone in cities having access to nature
• You'll be creative and proactive in designing and delivering activities which promote nature connection
• You'll have some ecological knowledge, with plant / wildlife identification skills and grassland surveying skills
• A team player who's also comfortable working independently in community setting
• A strong communicator who's confident talking to a wide range of people, from individuals to groups, and can work in partnership with community groups, internal teams and organisations.
• Someone who's comfortable working both outside and inside, with a mix of practical and project admin skills
• You'll hold a full UK driving licence and be happy to drive project vehicles
