PositionCommunity Paediatric Consultant - West Oxfordshire & Autism Lead NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant
Main duties and responsibilitiesThe postholder will join a team of Consultant Community Paediatricians. Core commitments include Community Paediatrics/neurodisability assessments including secondary level assessment and management of children with developmental difficulties, special educational needs, and child protection medicals. Responsibilities include providing Community Paediatric/Neurodisability care to children and families in a defined area of West Oxfordshire, including clinics within a special school, and leading the department's multidisciplinary assessment process for children with suspected neurodevelopmental disorders and particularly complex needs. The role includes supporting quarterly transition clinics with the Oxford Centre for Enablement for children moving from paediatric to adult care. The post requires leadership in the multidisciplinary assessment process and collaboration with Social Services and partner agencies.
Working pattern and locationThe post is based at Deer Park Medical Center in Witney and the John Radcliffe Hospital, with the flexibility to work across OUH locations. The total workload is 7.5 Programmed Activities (PAs). Typical duties include clinical assessments, multidisciplinary assessments, supervision of junior medical staff, teaching, and participation in child protection rotas. On-call and additional activities are described in the detailed rota below and subject to renegotiation annually.
Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesWorking days and times are to be agreed with the service lead and clinical director. Example timetable and Job Plan include clinical work in Child Development clinic, MDA assessments, special school clinics, transition clinics, and educational activities. Final Job Plan will be agreed on appointment and reviewed annually.
Person specification Qualifications- Full GMC licence to practice
- Professional qualifications - MRCPCH, MRCP or equivalent
- CCT/CESR with Registration on the GMC Specialist Register in Paediatrics or within 6 months of CCT at time of interview
- CCT in Community Paediatrics or equivalent experience (or within 6 months of CCT at interview)
- Training at safeguarding/Child Protection level 3
- Comprehensive training in Community Paediatrics including safeguarding work; hospital appointments at SHO/ST1-3 and registrar/ST4-8 level
- Experience in writing child protection reports, attending case conferences and court; ability to make independent decisions at Consultant level
- Locum Consultant experience in Community Paediatrics preferred
- Leadership and team management
- Organisation and time management; knowledge of NHS organisation and modernisation agenda
- Communication and interpersonal skills; good spoken and written English
- Teaching and training experience; teaching qualifications encouraged
- Clinical governance, risk management and audit experience
- Audit and service improvement experience
- Driving licence and access to a car for travel
