Community Builder - North West

- Work model: Hybrid - one day a week in the local office or class in Manchester, the other hours spread over 4 days a week.
- Reporting to: Director of Product and Professional Development.
- Start date: as soon as possible.
Support CYF North West to build a self-organised, autonomous and accountable community of volunteers and trainees.
Engagement is crucial for a successful CodeYourFuture community.
Purpose of this job
Our courses are delivered by volunteers who give their precious free time to support multiple tasks: in-person classes, review coursework, mentoring, pair programming, organising events, and many more.
Our trainees are people who come from disadvantaged backgrounds, so they have, on top of the challenge of learning to code in a short period of time, the difficult lives that throw them extra hurdles in the way.
Engaging these two groups to make a successful CodeYourFuture region is your goal. And you have to give them the tools to build a sustainable community. And support others Community Builders in their regions.
What are your main responsibilities?
- Your region must have engaged volunteers. This includes outreach, if you are running low on people. Celebrate the volunteers who support us. Engage volunteers to reduce attrition. Keep records updated so we know our real numbers.
- The volunteers in your region must be great. They must be professionals in their field, take ownership of their tasks, deliver their roles with high quality and help us review our processes.
- The volunteers in your region must support the trainees using the CodeYourFuture teaching methods. This means not giving the answers, but asking questions. Giving honest and constructive feedback. Respecting our values and working principles when interacting with the trainees.
- Your region must have engaged trainees. This includes representing us in events if the Outreach team needs support. Ensuring trainees attend classes and events. Understanding why dropouts happen and how to avoid them.
- Your region must have engaged graduates. They should be actively supporting in volunteer roles, speaking at events about their experiences, helping us find more volunteers, trainees or partners.
- Your region must have good communication. Changes, news and events should be communicated promptly to the necessary people. And any communication must be effective and generate actions.
What skills do we expect you to have?
- Community building: you must have helped or have built yourself communities
- Stakeholder engagement: be able to evidence how you work with and engage stakeholders who you depend on to fulfil tasks
- Project Management: organising tasks and timelines for small projects with support
- Flexible with how to allocate your hours: able to take weekly calls in the evening and work on some Saturdays

CodeYourFuture creates a unique, supportive learning community for people with the most limited economic, social and personal resources. All our classes are free and all our teachers are volunteers.
We help people change their lives through tech training - from basic online skills to advanced software engineering.
We work online and face-to-face. We provide personal support every single trainee, and we measure the impact of our work in terms of their learning and employment outcomes.
