Our council and the role:

The Communications & Admin Assistant will support the Parish Council's day-to-dayoperations with a particular focus on external communications, digital engagement, andcore administrative tasks. The role is part-time, working closely with the Clerk, DeputyClerk, Responsible Financial Officer (RFO), and Councilors to ensure smooth, efficient, andcompliant council activity.

Duties will include: External Communications
  • Council email management - Monitor, triage, and respond to incoming enquiries via the Council's public contact inbox, liaising with colleagues to ensure timely, professional communication.
  • Social media posting - Create and schedule posts across Council platforms (e.g.,Facebook, X/Twitter), promoting meetings, events, consultations, and communityupdates.
  • Website content updates - Maintain and update the Council website, including news items, statutory notices, meeting papers, and service information.
  • Design & draft clear, accessible public information, ensuring compliance with transparency requirements and Council communication policies.
Data Entry & Operational Support
  • Finance data entry - Assist the RFO with routine data input, invoice logging, receipt processing, and basic financial record maintenance.
  • Bookings administration - Support facility or event bookings (e.g., halls, sportspitches), including invoicing, entering booking details, updating calendars, and issuing confirmations.
  • Maintain accurate digital and paper records in line with GDPR and Council retention policies.
General Administrative Duties
  • Committee support - Provide administrative assistance to Council committees, including preparing agendas as directed, collating papers, taking notes, and producing draft minutes when required.
  • Assist with document preparation, filing, photocopying, and general office tasks.
  • Support the Clerk with project administration, consultations, surveys, and community engagement activities.
  • Help maintain inventories, registers, and compliance documentation.
The ideal candidate will have/be:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Competence with email platforms, social media tools, and website content management systems.
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher).
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
  • Experience in local government or community-focused organisations.
  • Familiarity with GDPR requirements and public-sector transparency obligations.
  • Understanding of parish council operations, committees, and statutory processes.
