Overview

The Wheathampstead & District Preservation Society is seeking a new committee member to help monitor and review local planning applications that may affect the character and heritage of Wheathampstead and the surrounding area.

This is an interesting and rewarding role for someone who cares about the future of the village and enjoys working as part of a friendly and proactive committee.

Key Responsibilities

• Attend the Wheathampstead Parish Council planning meeting once a month during the day as the WDPS representative.
• Review planning applications discussed at the meeting.
• Identify applications that may be of interest or concern to WDPS.
• Report back to the WDPS committee and present relevant applications for discussion.
• Help the committee agree an appropriate response where necessary.
• Attend monthly WDPS committee meetings on Monday evenings at 7.30pm.
• Contribute to discussions about planning, development and preservation matters affecting the village.

Skills or Experience

You do not need to be a planning expert, but the following would be helpful:

• Interest in local heritage, conservation and planning matters
• Ability to review documents and summarise key points
• Willingness to speak on behalf of WDPS at Parish Council meetings
• Good communication and teamwork skills
• Reliability and availability for the monthly meetings

Time Commitment

• One Parish Council planning meeting per month during the day
• One WDPS committee meeting per month (Monday evening, 7.30pm)
• Occasional time to review planning applications before committee discussion
