Job Description

ID Recruitment are working with a large civil construction company based in Mayo who are delivering to recruit a Commercial Manager. The role which has come about due to company growth will play a critical leadership role in ensuring projects are delivered profitably, efficiently, and in line with contractual and financial controls, supporting continued company growth

This role bridges operations, procurement, project delivery, and accounts, ensuring commercial visibility from tender stage through to final account.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the commercial performance of all live projects.
  • Monitor project budgets, cost tracking, and financial forecasting.
  • Ensure accurate cost capture against project/job numbers.
  • Review project margins and identify commercial risks or overspend.
  • Lead monthly commercial reviews with Project Managers and Directors.
  • Drive accountability for cost control across site and office teams.
  • Ensure tenders are profitable and commercially safe, not just technically correct.
Contract Management
  • Review client contracts, subcontracts, and commercial terms.
  • Identify contractual risks and ensure mitigation strategies are implemented.
  • Support negotiation of contracts with clients and subcontractors.
  • Ensure contractual compliance throughout project lifecycle.
Procurement & Cost Control
  • Implement structured procurement processes across projects.
  • Ensure competitive quotations are obtained prior to ordering.
  • Work closely with Procurement, Project Managers, and Construction Managers.
  • Monitor purchasing trends and prevent unnecessary or duplicate ordering.
  • Improve planning to reduce emergency purchasing and material waste.
  • Ensure returns, credits, and supplier reconciliations are completed promptly.
Project Support & Delivery
  • Support Project Managers in commercial decision-making.
  • Ensure projects operate with approved budgets and look-ahead planning.
  • Review labour utilization and productivity against program.
  • Assist teams in maintaining financial awareness on site.
  • Promote collaboration between engineering, site, procurement, and accounts teams.
Reporting & Forecasting

Produce commercial reports for Directors including:

  • Project cost vs budget analysis
  • Forecast final account positions
  • Cashflow projections
  • Provide early warning of commercial or programme risks.
  • Support strategic planning and business growth decisions.
Key Skills & Experience
  • Level 8 qualification in Construction management, Quantity Surveying or Civil Engineering.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience of large-scale construction, engineering or manufacturing projects,
  • Experience in tendering, budget preparation and financial forecasting.
  • Strong leadership with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong negotiation skills and supplier management skills.
