Commercial Manager

An outstanding opportunity has arisen for an experienced Commercial Manager or Commercial Director to lead the commercial function across a portfolio of major infrastructure, energy, water, and specialist projects.
This is a senior leadership position with responsibility for commercial strategy, financial performance, risk management, contract governance, and the development of high performing commercial teams. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping business performance, influencing strategic direction, and supporting the continued growth of a leading international construction and engineering organisation.
Key Responsibilities Commercial Leadership & Strategy- Lead all commercial activities across multiple business units, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and governance requirements.
- Develop and implement commercial strategies focused on margin improvement, risk mitigation, cash flow optimisation, and sustainable growth.
- Oversee contract negotiation, commercial governance, and compliance with legal and corporate standards.
- Ensure robust contract administration, change control procedures, and payment mechanisms across all projects.
- Support and contribute to bid, tender, and pre construction activities.
- Provide commercial leadership during tender submissions, including pricing strategy and risk assessment.
- Monitor project performance through structured reviews to ensure financial objectives and key performance indicators are achieved.
- Maximise cash generation through effective WIP management and cash flow control.
- Identify, manage, and mitigate commercial risks and opportunities across the project portfolio.
- Lead the resolution of commercial disputes and support contractual and insurance based recovery mechanisms.
- Oversee cost management, forecasting, reporting, and final account settlements.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high performing commercial team, ranging from Graduate Quantity Surveyors to Senior Commercial Managers.
- Establish clear objectives, performance standards, and succession planning initiatives.
- Support professional development and chartership pathways.
- Promote a strong culture of commercial awareness, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Partner closely with Operations Directors, Project Directors, and Executive Leadership Teams to drive business performance.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships and represent the organisation at industry and stakeholder events.
- Ensure alignment with wider business strategy and collaborative working practices.
- Support business improvement initiatives and the implementation of commercial best practice.
- Participate in audits, governance reviews, and process improvement programmes.
- Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of commercial systems, controls, and reporting processes.
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management, or related discipline.
- Chartered status (MRICS or equivalent) highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of construction contracts and commercial frameworks.
- Extensive experience in a senior commercial leadership role within the construction, civil engineering, infrastructure, utilities, or energy sectors.
- Proven ability to lead and develop multi disciplinary commercial teams.
- Strong expertise in contract administration, commercial management, cost control, and risk management.
- Detailed knowledge of NEC and other standard forms of contract.
- Excellent understanding of project controls, planning, forecasting, and programme management.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills and strong commercial reporting capability.
- Strategic thinker with strong commercial judgement.
- Excellent leadership and influencing skills.
- Analytical, decisive, and solutions focused.
- Strong communicator with the ability to engage effectively at executive level.
- High levels of professionalism, integrity, and stakeholder focus.
- Committed to continuous improvement and team development.
- Full driving licence required.
- This is not a safety critical role.
- The successful candidate may be involved in wider group initiatives, governance reviews, and business improvement programmes.
- Base Salary: c. €200,000
- Annual Bonus: c. 30%
- Car Allowance: c. €14,000
- Family Health Insurance: c. €3,500
