Commercial Lawyer
Posted 2 days 4 hours ago by Barden | B Corp
I'm partnering with a leading organisation in Ireland's energy sector on an opportunity for an commercial lawyer to join a major strategic infrastructure project focused on Ireland's long-term energy security.
This is a particularly interesting opportunity for a lawyer who enjoys variety and wants exposure to a broad range of commercial, regulatory and project-related legal work, rather than being confined to one specialist area.
The role can be based in Dublin or Cork, with a hybrid working arrangement of 2 days onsite in the office.
The role will be offered as a Specific Purpose Contract for the duration of the process. However, this is a multi-year long process with significant milestones and phases still to come, so there is significant job security during the project and potential opportunities with the organisation once it comes to an end.
THE ROLEThe successful lawyer will work closely with the senior Commercial Lawyer and wider multidisciplinary project team, supporting the legal workstream across the development and delivery of a significant national infrastructure project.
The role will involve a broad mix of:
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts and project documentation
- Supporting procurement activity, including major construction-related procurement
- Advising on regulatory, compliance, planning and governance matters
- Supporting the project team on contractual and commercial issues
- Managing and coordinating external legal advisers where appropriate
- Supporting dispute-related matters as they arise
- Working closely with engineering, finance, regulatory, commercial and project management teams
There is a strong support structure around the legal team, including experienced internal stakeholders, technical specialists and external legal advisers. You won't be expected to be the finished article from day one - the focus is on finding someone capable, diligent and proactive who in time can take ownership of work and develop with the project.
THE PERSONThe client is looking for a qualified solicitor with approximately 2-4 years' PQE.
You might come from a commercial contracts, projects, infrastructure, energy, construction or broader commercial background. Specific sector experience isn't essential - what matters most is strong commercial judgement and the ability to work across a varied workload.
You'll ideally have:
- Experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts
- A good understanding of commercial and contractual risk
- An interest in working across a broad range of legal issues rather than specialising narrowly
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- A practical, solutions-focused approach to legal advice
- The ability to manage competing priorities and keep workstreams moving
- A proactive and diligent approach, with the confidence to take ownership while knowing when to seek guidance
