British Antarctic Survey (BAS) are looking for a commercial cleaner to support the Cambridge based BAS Estates team. The role involves developing superb working relationships with various stakeholders including internal staff and visitors. This post offers flexible working (Mon-Fri). This role is not suitable for hybrid working.
Purpose- To work as part of the Cambridge Estate Cleaning Team to help maintain a clean, tidy and hygienic environment for the smooth operation of all aspects of the multifunctional site.
- To uphold and ensure that staff working on site view the buildings as a clean and safe environment in which to work.
- To uphold and ensure that the 'first impressions' of the many visitors coming to BAS is of a clean and safe environment.
- Empty bins & replace liners
- Damp mop floors
- Polishing
- Clean sanitary areas
- Dusting
- Glass cleaning
- Ensure that all waste is segregated and placed in the correct receptacle for recycling
- Cleaning of toilet areas & kitchenettes
- Re filling of hand towel and toilet roll dispensers, including soap dispensers
Conduct cyclical deep cleans as delegated by the Cleaning Supervisor.
Comply with all necessary Health and Safety guidance.
Ensure PPE and issued clothing is correctly worn when conducting cleaning duties at BAS.
Ensure that stock request forms are produced as required.
Use a computer for the booking of holidays and carry duties as required through the electronic management system.
Provide cover for sickness & holiday.
Ensure that the areas allocated are kept to a very high standard of cleanliness and the scientific and administrative staff are able to work in a clean and safe environment.

The above list is not exhaustive and you are required to undertake such duties as may reasonably be requested within the scope of the post. All employees are required to act professionally, co operatively and flexibly in line with the requirements of the post, BAS and UKRI principles and cultural values.
Skill Specification- Previous cleaning experience
- Knowledge of cleaning techniques
- General standard of education and able to speak fluent English
- Good communication skills in listening and understanding instructions
- Proven skills in working independently with minimum supervision
- Motivated individual with a strong desire for self and team development
- Ability to take instructions from and discuss issues with the supervisor
- Good time keeping
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to follow verbal and written instruction
- Work within the UKRI values
- Ability to work effectively and as part of a team. Ability to build productive relationships and work with a wide range of scientists, operational staff, and external partners
- To understand COSHH and Health and Safety needs
- Previous cleaning experience in a multifunctional and customer focused environment
- Knowledge of cleaning machinery e.g. floor scrubbing machines, industrial sweepers etc.
- Ability to plan own workload
