Overview

The IT Security and End User Technology department of WorkSafeBC is looking for one highly motivated, dynamic, innovative Co op student, Cybersecurity Identity and architecture specialist to join our team to help us strive towards our vision.

The Cybersecurity Operations department provides an exceptional technology experience for our organization by meeting end user expectations for technology education and support, offering best in class Cybersecurity, and ensuring transparent and accountable decision making through governance practices and policies. This is an eight month temporary opportunity starting in January 2026.

Where you'll work

At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines working remotely and in our offices based on the operational needs of the position. Please be aware that the two week onboarding period is full time onsite in the Richmond office.

What you'll do

On Day 1 in this role, you will meet your manager and get acquainted with your team. You will spend time setting up administrative and technological essentials, and completing onboarding tasks, including security and payroll setup.

During your first week you will engage in a comprehensive onboarding program as well as partner with a work buddy to equip you for success. You will be partnering and meeting with your manager to discuss your goals and align them with the team's vision. Additionally, you will learn how our department contributes to the overall business strategy and supports the organization's mandate. You will also work through different safety and security courses as part of the WorkSafeBC e learning modules.

  • Support the administration and enhancement of IAM platforms such as Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), SailPoint, and ForgeRock.
  • Assist in identity lifecycle processes including provisioning, de provisioning, and access reviews.
  • Participate in the development of identity workflows, access control models, and user journey mapping.
  • Support the completion of Privacy Impact Assessments for new systems, applications, and business processes in compliance with FIPPA.
  • Assist in drafting and updating security policies and standards under the guidance of the Cybersecurity Architecture & Policy team.
  • Assist in implementing AI technologies to improve efficiency of internal security tasks.
  • Assist in maintaining architecture documentation and knowledge bases.
  • Assist the senior engineers in implementation of security initiatives.
Is this a good fit for you?

We're looking for someone who can:

  • Be familiar with industry security standards i.e. ISO 27001, NIST CSF.
  • Be familiar with Azure, and concepts of identity management in cloud solutions.
  • Implement, direct and enforce logical security.
  • Analyze data and logs for problem identification and resolution.
  • Participate in research and evaluations of logical security solutions, technologies and procedures.
  • Contribute to a positive work environment by collaborating and working effectively as a member of the team.
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills for documentation and collaboration.
  • Be able to think critically while also having fun working through complex problems.
  • Currently be an undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in a computer science, cybersecurity or a related program.
  • Have previous co op or relevant work experience in an office environment is preferred.
  • Have Microsoft Azure Security experience as an asset.
  • Have previous experience in working with identity management solutions as an asset.
  • Have previous experience in working with security policies and privacy assessments as an asset.
