Clinical Nurse Specialist - Cardiac Assessment Unit / (potentially leading to) Candidate Advanced Nurse Practitioner (cANP) / Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) - Cardiology
Full time, Permanent. 37.5 hours per week. Salary €62,699.00-€79,221.00, dependent on relevant experience.
Purpose of the RoleThe CNS, CANP, ANP will play a pivotal role in the operational and clinical coordination of the Cardiac Access Unit (CAU). The post holder will act as the primary liaison between General Practitioners, Consultant Cardiologists, diagnostic departments, booking teams, ward teams and patients to ensure efficient and safe running of the service. Clinical triage of referrals against agreed acceptance and exclusion criteria will be a key aspect of the role.
Candidate Criteria Qualifications- Registered, or eligible for registration, in the General Nurse Division of the Register of Nurses kept by the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
- Meet all NMBI requirements for CANP/ANP registration and maintenance of registration.
- Hold a Master's degree (Level9 NFQ) relevant to advanced nursing practice.
- Serve as the primary nursing contact and coordinator for all patients referred to the CAU.
- Receive, review and process referrals from General Practitioners and other approved sources in accordance with established protocols.
- Conduct initial clinical assessment and triage of referrals, escalating concerns to the Consultant Cardiologist where mandatory.
- Ensure accepted patients meet inclusion criteria and adhere to exclusion criteria.
- Coordinate patient appointments, investigations, reviews and follow up plans to ensure timely access.
- Provide ongoing patient monitoring and clinical support throughout the CAU pathway.
- Undertake comprehensive nursing assessments and maintain accurate clinical documentation.
- Identify patients requiring escalation of care and facilitate urgent consultant review.
- Support the development of patient centred care plans and ensure continuity of care across the patient journey.
- Registered as a Registered General Nurse (RGN) with the NMBI.
- Minimum of 5years post registration clinical experience.
- Minimum of 3years recent experience in cardiology, coronary care, acute medicine, cardiac diagnostics, cardiac catheterisation laboratory, or related emergency specialty.
- Evidence of continuing professional development in cardiology nursing.
- Excellent clinical assessment, ECG interpretation and communication skills.
- Competence in venepuncture and phlebotomy.
- Evidence of advanced clinical assessment, diagnostic reasoning, and decision making skills for CANP/ANP applicants.
- Experience managing complex cardiology presentations and working autonomously within an agreed scope of practice.
