Cloud Engineer
Posted 2 days 3 hours ago by Dootrix Ltd
Remote first, with offices in Manchester and Portsmouth.
At Dootrix, we design intelligent software solutions in Microsoft Azure that empower businesses for the future. We specialise in Application Modernisation, Data Integration & AI, and Cloud Governance & Process, with the mission to be the UK's leading alternative to traditional global systems integrators (SIs).
Our passion lies in creating innovative, scalable, and secure solutions tailored to meet the unique challenges of today's dynamic businesses. Through close collaboration with our clients, we deliver bespoke solutions that enhance efficiency, agility, and competitive advantage.
Our Values
- Doo Good Work: We strive for excellence in everything we do.
- Doo Explore: We embrace curiosity and are eager to learn and grow.
- Doo Innovate: We challenge the status quo to build smarter solutions.
- Doo Together: Collaboration is at the heart of our success.
- Doo Own It: We take responsibility and deliver with integrity.
- Doo The Extraordinary: We go beyond expectations to achieve the remarkable.
About the role
Dootrix is leading the shift to agent-based computing. We're not just talking about the future, we're building it.
We're looking for a hands-on Cloud Engineer to design, build, and run cloud-native systems that are secure, scalable, and production-ready from first commit to live deployment. You'll apply modern architecture patterns, work closely with cross-functional teams, and take full ownership of delivering real solutions. This isn't a maintenance role, it's a builder's role, shaping high-quality systems from the ground up.
What you'll need
- Proven experience building cloud-native applications, ideally with Azure PaaS services (e.g. App Services, Functions, API Management, Cosmos DB, Azure SQL, etc.)
- Strong capability in designing and implementing secure APIs, scalable data layers, and compute solutions
- Familiarity with modern architecture patterns, including event-driven, microservices, and domain-driven design
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and release processes - we use Azure DevOps
- Comfortable working with Infrastructure as Code (Bicep, ARM templates, or Terraform preferred)
- Awareness of cloud security best practices, with a focus on authentication, encryption, and secure-by-design thinking
- Proactive in building for observability, resilience, and performance from the outset
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, especially within agile delivery teams
The tech you'll work with
You don't need to tick every box, but you should be living and breathing in this space:
App Services, Functions, API Management, Cosmos DB, Azure SQL, and related services
Bicep, ARM templates, Terraform
Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, and automated release pipelines
Designing, securing, and scaling RESTful APIs (bonus if familiar with GraphQL and OpenAPI)
Authentication, encryption, identity management
Bonus if you have exposure to Docker and container orchestration (AKS, etc.)
What we're looking for
- A passion for exploring and adopting new technologies
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Comfortable working in cross-functional, agile teams
- A mindset of lifelong learning and mentoring others as you grow
Hard No's
- If you prefer endlessly designing over actually building and shipping, this isn't for you.
- We need engineers who can deploy, secure, and scale real-world cloud services, not just talk about them.
- If you prefer to stick to the "way things have always been done," you'll struggle here.
- Our engineers work openly and closely across teams; lone wolves and siloed thinkers won't thrive.
- If you want to be assigned small tasks instead of owning solutions end-to-end, this isn't your place.
Bonus Points
- Containerisation with Docker and understanding of how to deploy/scale containers in cloud environments
- Exposure to Kubernetes, service mesh tools, or API gateways
- Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools (e.g. Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Log Analytics)
- Passion for exploring new tech, contributing to innovation, and sharing knowledge across teams
- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams with designers, testers, and stakeholders
- Clarity beats cleverness - we favour open, simple communication
- Learn through doing - failure is part of the journey to success
- Focus breeds quality - we believe in small, focused, empowered team
