Job Type: Fixed Term (11 month contract)

Overview

UPMC Whitfield Hospital is recruiting a Clinical Specialist Radiographer PET CT to lead, guide and supervise Radiographic staff, manage day to day service delivery, maintain professional competence across the department and rotate through other areas as needed. The role requires strong responsibility and individual initiative.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage PET CT patients alongside RSM and CT Clinical Specialist.
  • Act as an experienced Nuclear Medicine Lead for the PET CT department.
  • Undertake PET CT nuclear medicine processes and training to deliver high-quality service.
  • Provide PET CT service across UPMC Ireland sites.
  • Lead on radiation safety within nuclear medicine processes.
  • Manage and develop PET CT QA program and Nuclear Medicine Lab QA program.
  • Support the Radiology team and coordinate workflow.
  • Stay current on new developments applicable to PET CT imaging.
  • Provide guidance to junior staff.
  • Operate and maintain equipment safely.
  • Dispense and administer FDG and other isotopes following patient preparation, screening and assessment including IV cannulation.
General Responsibilities
  • Lead and promote healthy working relationships.
  • Deliver effective, efficient, quality assured, patient centred PET CT service.
  • Organise, plan and prioritise workload according to clinical need.
  • Take day to day responsibility for PET CT imaging service and resource utilisation.
  • Accountable for daily quality, customer service and technical aspects.
  • Contribute to operational policy, protocol and guideline development.
  • Advise on equipment selection, purchase, replacement or upgrading.
  • Prepare and monitor service plans, reporting on implementation.
  • Report operational issues to Radiography Services Manager.
  • Manage consumables efficiently.
  • Assess patient suitability for IV injections.
  • Implement continuous learning for staff on PET CT and Nuclear Medicine safety.
  • Dispense and administer IV injection per departmental policy.
  • Care for patients experiencing contrast reaction or other illness during or after imaging.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and respect customs, values and spiritual beliefs.
  • Monitor stock levels in the immediate work area.
  • Liaise with Radiographic Service Manager on staff rotation through the department.
  • Ensure staff perform manual handling tasks including patient movement.
Radiation Safety
  • Adhere to principles of radiation protection: justification, optimisation (ALARA) and dose constraints/limits.
  • Be familiar with S.I.256 and S.I.30 basic safety standards.
  • Show flexibility in work patterns, e.g., extending hours during high volume periods.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree in Radiography or Diploma of the College of Radiographers.
  • Registered in the Radiographer's Division by the Radiographers Registration Board at CORU.
  • Not less than 5 years full time post qualification clinical experience.
  • Recognised postgraduate course in CT by the IIRRT (desirable but not mandatory).
Professional & Educational Requirements
  • Maintain and develop knowledge, skills and aptitudes to meet changing clinical and legal requirements.
  • Participate in human resource planning, recruitment and staff selection.
  • Deliver CPD and provide peer support.
Salary

€66,248.13 - €78,250.54 per annum (based on a 35 week year)
