About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the team that have been working on the rapid clinical development of vaccines against COVID-19and other important outbreak pathogens including Marburg and Ebola.

You will play an important role workingon vaccine and vaccine-related studies, includingagainstCOVID-19and other threats to human health, recently developed human models of typhoid and paratyphoid infection and pneumococcal, RSV and influenzachallenge studies in a collaboration withtheLiverpool SchoolofTropical Medicine(LSTM).

The post will include contribution to aclinicalrota, anon-call rotaand includes some evening and weekendwork.

This research is expected to lead tohigh qualitypublications and includes opportunities for suitable candidates to study for a higher degree (MSc/MD/DPhil). If the candidate is interested in pursuing an academic research career, they will be given the opportunity and encouragement to seek independent research funding and to develop a laboratory, clinical or a translational research proposal.

You will be working in a growing department within the Medical Sciences Division. The Department of Paediatrics is a world leader in child health research and hosts internationally renowned research programmes in drug development, gastroenterology, haematology, HIV, immunology, neuroimaging, neuromuscular diseases and vaccinology.

This position is offered full on a fixed-term contract initially for 12 months with the possibility to extend provided further external funding is available.

About you

This is a post fora medicaldoctorandwould be especially suitable for trainees in infectious or tropical diseases, medical microbiology/virology, immunology, gastroenterology or acute internal medicine, but would also be suitable for trainees in any other specialty, including general practice or on completion of core medical training.
