Job Description

The Clinical Research and Delivery Manager will be an integral member of the EMS Clinical Trials Division, responsible for the operational management and successful delivery of our community-based clinical research portfolio. The role involves oversight of day-to-day research activities including site and staff management, compliance, project delivery, and clinical supervision-ensuring that all studies are delivered safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

You will work collaboratively with both internal teams and external stakeholders, leading clinical delivery across multiple sites and ensuring clinical research is conducted within regulatory, protocol, and company frameworks. You will also play a vital role in supporting study feasibility, staff planning, client communication, and ongoing service development.

The role demands strong leadership, coordination, and organisational skills to maintain EMS's commitment to delivering high-quality clinical trials.

Main Duties

  • Oversee and manage research delivery across allocated clinical sites, ensuring trial performance, protocol adherence, regulatory compliance (ICH-GCP), and patient safety.
  • Build, support, and lead site teams to deliver clinical trials from start-up to closeout in line with study expectations.
  • Recruit, manage and develop high-performing clinical research staff, promoting a culture of accountability, inclusivity, and excellence.
  • Provide clinical and operational leadership to nurses and research staff in the delivery of commercial and non-commercial trials.
  • Coordinate communication and reporting between study teams, sponsors, and EMS's internal departments.
  • Actively participate in strategy and planning meetings across the Clinical Trials division.
  • Collaborate with the Business Development Team to assess study feasibility and provide input on new research opportunities.
  • Attend and support site selection visits, site initiation visits, and monitor ongoing trial needs, keeping abreast of protocol amendments.
  • Coordinate and deliver training for site staff in line with study-specific and organisational requirements.
  • Provide clear and consistent performance reporting to the Head of Clinical Trials.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of trial progress, risk assessments, and mitigation plans.
  • Represent EMS in meetings with clients, sponsors, and partners across the UK.

Experience- Essential

  • Registered Nurse (NMC active pin number).
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a clinical research management role within a commercial or NHS setting.
  • Proven experience managing clinical staff and research site operations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of clinical trial regulation and governance (ICH-GCP, GDPR, etc.).
  • Strong leadership and team management experience.
  • Educated to degree level in a scientific or health-related discipline (or equivalent).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and other relevant IT systems.
  • Proven ability to prioritise workload and manage multiple projects concurrently.

Experience - Preferable

  • Experience working within mobile or community healthcare environments.
  • Previous experience supporting the set-up and delivery of decentralised or hybrid clinical trials.
  • Familiarity with electronic data capture (EDC) systems, eTMF, and remote monitoring platforms.

Other Requirements

  • Able to travel regularly within the UK.
  • Full UK residency with a valid driving licence and access to own transport (note: EMS clinical sites may not be accessible via public transport).
  • 25 days holiday increasing to 28 after 5 years' service
