We are delighted to offer the opportunity for two Band 8a Clinical Psychologist posts based in the Early Intervention in Psychosis Service. We are willing to consider newly qualified Clinical Psychologists with relevant experienced Band 7 who can be offered a preceptorship to achieve an 8a banding over their first year post qualification.
We have two EIP teams based within the City of Nottingham and in the County of Nottinghamshire, which have a range of mental health professionals working within them and support people who either present with an at risk mental health state that could lead to psychosis or are actively experiencing a first episode psychosis. There may in addition be other mental health problems that may be experienced alongside the psychosis, including complex trauma, depression, anxiety, dissociation, self-harm and life threatening behaviours. The successful applicants will work within team based posts where they will be supported by other experienced Psychologists already working in the Adult Mental Health Community Services and will be responsible for the provision of psychological interventions with patients who are under the care of the Early Intervention in Psychosis Teams.
Main duties of the jobWe see the role of psychologists working in Adult Mental Health services as:
- To enhance the psychological mindedness of the Multi Disciplinary Team and Adult Mental Health Service as well as improve the psychological competence and confidence of non psychologists within the MDT to deliver psychological interventions.
- To work with service users and support non direct work with staff within the EIP Team (supervision, training) together with initiatives which enhance the psychological mindedness of the wider directorate (e.g., articles, wider training). The role is ideally suited to someone who wants to work within an MDT setting and apply and develop skills and interests across a broad and varied range of activities.
- To act as a senior member of staff within the EIP Teams and develop leadership skills, research, service development and audit projects.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.

- Doctorate level qualification in applied psychology (this may include clinical, counselling or forensic doctorate).
- Current HCPC registration.
- Further training in specialist area such as neuropsychology.
- Experience of working in a multi disciplinary setting.
- Experience of liaison and consultation with other professionals; involvement in the planning and development of psychological services.
- Supervising other clinicians.
- Evaluating and auditing professional work.
- Experience of working with psychosis.
- Teaching mental health professionals about psychological issues.
- Experience of clinically relevant research.
- Extensive and up to date knowledge of relevant theory and research through reading and CPD.
- IT skills sufficient for the purposes of word processing, data entry and statistical analysis.
- Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.
- Ability to undertake specialist assessments, develop formulations and provide psychological interventions.
- Doctoral level knowledge of research, design and methodology.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and relationship building skills.
- Planning skills to organise workload and contribute to service co ordination and delivery of care to the individual and team.
- Skills for assessment involving complex facts where expert opinion may differ.
- Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non professional groups.
- IT skills.
- A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use is required for this post; however reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010.
