Job overview

To provide clinical support carrying out independently or assisting with interventional/investigational procedures in which full training has been undertaken based on clinical practice standards. The Clinical Nurse Specialist/Specialist Midwife will be an advanced and experienced practitioner within their speciality. The role requires a high degree of professional autonomy and clinical judgement, taking sole and joint responsibility for patient and procedure during diagnostic and therapeutic interventional procedures to ensure successful outcomes. The postholder will give advice to consultants and other speciality professionals, lead within the speciality, and ensure delivery and expansion of an expert nurse led/midwife led service through interdisciplinary care.

Main duties
  • Serve as essential member, point of contact and resource for the multi disciplinary team, patients and carers.
  • Carry out diagnostic/therapeutic interventions independently, interpret, write reports, and commence further treatment based on findings.
  • Carry out complex therapeutic/investigational procedures under indirect supervision of the Consultant, ensuring safe practice and adherence to guidelines.
  • Demonstrate ability to develop new skills and provide high quality nurse led/midwife led service.
  • Manage patient care and relevant interventions autonomously or with the multidisciplinary team, within agreed clinical protocols and current practice.
  • Offer supportive service to patients and carers, disseminating specialist knowledge to assist with life changes and body image, liaising with other healthcare professionals when necessary.
Person specification Qualifications and Training
  • MSc level learning
  • RN / RM - Part 1
  • Relevant specialist course or similar
  • Mentorship course (supervising and assessing)
  • Advanced training/skills in invasive/therapeutic/diagnostic procedures relevant to speciality
  • In depth knowledge of anatomy related to speciality
  • Knowledge of conditions, management and treatment
  • Knowledge of quality standards
  • Counselling course
  • Non Medical Prescribing
Experience
  • Senior clinical experience within their speciality
  • Experience in Practice Guideline Development
  • Audit and Research Experience
  • Evidence of clinical leadership qualities
  • Ability to prioritise and organise workloadAbility to work autonomously and as a member of a multiprofessional team
  • Evidence of using primary and secondary healthcare teams and resources
  • Ability to clinically lead and direct staff
  • Experience in patient advocacy
