We are hiring a Clinical Nurse Specialist - Cardiac Assessment Unit (cANP)/(ANP) in our Hospital in Limerick, Ireland.

Full-time (37.5 hours per week) Permanent

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist assessment, management, and ongoing care for patients with suspected or confirmed heart failure.
  • Perform comprehensive clinical assessments, including history taking, physical examinations, and interpretation of diagnostic investigations.
  • Coordinate inpatient and outpatient heart failure consultations, reviews, and follow-up care.
  • Support and participate in consultant-led heart failure outpatient clinics.
  • Deliver nurse-led heart failure clinics, in line with the role's scope of practice and clinical protocols.
  • Optimise and monitor guideline-directed medical therapy, including medication titration and clinical review.
  • Identify patients suitable for ambulatory care, facilitate early supported discharge, and coordinate post-discharge follow-up.
  • Serve as a specialist point of contact, providing expert advice and support to heart failure patients and their families.
  • Educate patients on self-management, including medication adherence, symptom monitoring, diet, fluid management, and lifestyle modifications.
  • Recognise and promptly escape complex or deteriorating patient conditions to the supervising Consultant Cardiologist while ensuring continuity of high-quality care.
Requirements
  • Registered as a Registered General Nurse (RGN) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
  • Minimum 5 years of post-registration clinical nursing experience.
  • At least 3 years of recent experience in cardiology, coronary care, acute medicine, cardiac diagnostics, cardiac catheterisation laboratory, or a related emergency specialty.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development (CPD) in cardiology nursing.
  • Excellent clinical assessment, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Competency in ECG interpretation and comprehensive cardiology patient assessment.
  • Competency in venepuncture and phlebotomy.
  • Meet all NMBI requirements for Candidate Advanced Nurse Practitioner (CANP) or Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) registration and ongoing maintenance.
  • Hold a Level 9 (NFQ) Master's degree relevant to advanced nursing practice.
  • Significant clinical experience in cardiology nursing.
  • Advanced clinical assessment, diagnostic reasoning, and decision-making skills.
  • Experience managing complex cardiology presentations.
  • Ability to work autonomously within an agreed scope of advanced nursing practice.
