We are hiring a Clinical Nurse Manager 1 - Day Surgery for a leading Hospital in Dublin, Ireland .

Job Title: Interim Clinical Nurse Manager 1
Department: Day Surgery
Job Type: Specific Purpose Contract (Maternity Cover)
Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Responsibilities

  • Provide visible leadership and clinical support to nursing and healthcare staff within the Day Ward, ensuring high-quality patient-centred care in line with hospital values and Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) standards.
  • Oversee the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care while supporting safe admission, treatment, discharge, and effective patient flow processes.
  • Promote effective communication, teamwork, and collaboration within the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe and coordinated care delivery in a fast-paced environment.
  • Coordinate daily staffing, skill mix, and staff allocation to meet operational and patient care requirements while supporting service continuity in the absence of senior management.
  • Monitor ward activity, scheduling, waiting times, and service efficiency, working closely with clinical and operational teams to optimise patient throughput and service delivery.
  • Support staff supervision, mentorship, induction, training, and professional development to maintain high clinical standards and a positive team culture.
  • Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control policies, conduct ward-level audits, implement quality improvement initiatives, and collaborate with the Infection Prevention and Control team.
  • Participate in clinical governance activities including incident reporting, audits, risk management, and continuous quality improvement in accordance with HIQA, JCI, and hospital standards.
  • Utilise information technology systems effectively, including electronic health record systems such as Meditech, to support patient care, documentation, and administrative processes.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and data protection standards in line with GDPR, HIQA, hospital policies, and the NMBI Code of Professional Conduct while promoting a culture of privacy and professionalism.
Requirements
  • Hold active registration in the General Division of the live register maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
  • Possess a minimum of 3 years post-registration nursing experience, preferably within day ward, acute surgical, or medical care settings.
  • Demonstrate the clinical, managerial, and administrative competence required to effectively perform the responsibilities of the role.
  • Exhibit strong interpersonal, communication, and motivational skills with the ability to lead and support a multidisciplinary team.
  • Show commitment to continuous learning, ongoing professional development, and evidence-based nursing practice.
  • Have completed management or leadership training relevant to healthcare or nursing services.
