Main duties of the jobAIMS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The basis for this post is to provide clinical and surgical training as well as research in the care of children with primary, secondary, and tertiary eye conditions.
CLINICAL DUTIES
The post holder's duties will primarily be based at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, however there will be occasional clinical duties on other sites as needed on other parts of the Trust, including peripheral clinics. Paediatric Uveitis clinic (JIA) takes place in on Friday mornings at The Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre (NOC).
Oxford is one of only 4 craniofacial units in the UK and the Haematology and Oncology Service if one of the 20 principal treatment centers in the UK. The post holder is therefore expected to work in close collaboration with both the Craniofacial, neurology, Neurosurgery, and oncology departments in the care of children with Neuro-ophthalmic and Oncology disorders.
Oxford is known to have one of the most well-established ROP screening and treatment centers in the UK and is highly regarded for the expertise in neonatal and paediatric vitreoretinal services. The successful candidate will have a chance to develop skills in that area.
There might be an opportunity to have exposure some adult strabismus and complex clinics and/theatre where complex cases with paralytic/restrictive/adjustable strabismus are managed.
About usThe Paediatric Ophthalmology department
The paediatric ophthalmology department includes 2 consultants, Mr Sanil Shah and Miss Nervine ElMeshad and 2 senior consultants,Mr Manoj Parulekar, and Mr C K Patel. There is one clinical fellow and 1 trainee (Thames Deanery). There are 15 orthoptists within the Eye team 2 support each paediatric ophthalmology clinic and a further 3 support paediatric ophthalmology extended role clinics. 2 Optometrists also support each clinic, along with specialist paediatric low vision services/contact lens services. The department is also supported by 2 technicians for ophthalmology investigation and imaging.

Person Specification Qualifications/Training- GMC - Registered with a Licence to Practice
- Near completion of CCT, CESR (Or equivalent from outside the UK)
- Medical degree FRCOphth or equivalent Prior experience in Paediatric Ophthalmology
- CCT, CESR or equivalent
- Surgical experience Research experience
- TransportDemonstrates an ability to effectively undertake the role of clinical fellow in a large teaching hospital.
- Ability to work independently.
