The Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at St Mary's Hospital is recruiting for an experienced PICU Nurse at Band 7 Clinical Educator.
The successful applicant will join to support a multidisciplinary team of skilled and highly motivated staff who provide quality care to children with a wide variety of conditions including medical, surgical, trauma, infectious diseases, orthopaedics, plastics, ENT and the largest Bone Marrow Transplant Centre non-malignant blood cancers in the UK.
We provide specialist education at every level, including the opportunity for nurses to assert advance and extended practices in nurse-led Haemafiltration, Plasmaphoresis, and Advanced Respiratory Care and Retrieval Nursing.
We are looking for a Band 7 Clinical Educator who is resourceful and is committed to delivering high quality care in education and development. The post holder must have recent expert skills in PICU and has the relevant experience in taking charge and being a supervisor in practice.
They will engage in all development opportunities and be enthusiastic about their own development and growth and that of others. Main duties of the job- To be a professional role model, leading and co-ordinating education and/or practice development in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit, supporting and deputising for the Senior Sister/ Charge Nurse and Matron in the management of clinical area as required. This involves managing a wide range of complex and sometimes conflicting priorities.
- To provide expert evidence based clinical bedside teaching to all levels of nursing; allied health and medical staff.
- Provide specialist nursing advice across WLCH to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients /clients and relatives/carers in collaboration with the multi professional team, in line with the local and national targets.
- At all times ensure that the needs of the patient are placed at the centre of care delivery.
- To be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and provide cover for any area specified across Children's Services.
- Act as a key link with other members of the in-service education and/or practice development team(s) and external education institutions as required.

Person Specification EDUCATION- RN Child /RSCN
- Mentorship in Practice or equivalent
- Education to degree level or equivalent knowledge
- Management Course
- Teaching and Learning Qualification at Degree/Masters level or above
- Experience and proven skills in PICU Nursing and proven management skills
- To have actively supervised and assessed staff at all levels in clinical practice
- Experience in change management
- Minimum of 4 years' experience in speciality
- Expert skills in PICU Nursing, including Haemafiltration
- Evidence of participating or managing a Clinical Audits
- Has an understanding of QI Methodology
- Minimum of 12 months recent experience, managing or supervising a clinical area and nursing team
- Effective time management for self and others
- Knowledge of quality, standard setting and audit.
- Experience of formal, informal teaching of nurses
- Can take charge of a PICU.
- Demonstrate the methodologies of Recruitment and Retention
