About the Role

The role involves providing clinical leadership alongside the Chief Medical Officer, overseeing the Gastroenterology Service. Responsibilities include improving clinical pathways, ensuring high-quality patient care, safety, governance, and strategic development of the service. The role also includes direct clinical assessment and management of patients within the gastroenterology pathway.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Review and improve clinical practices and resource utilization.
  2. Collaborate with operational and medical leadership to ensure coordinated service delivery and efficiency.
  3. Monitor and ensure service performance targets are met.
  4. Identify and implement cost improvement strategies.
  5. Lead research, audit strategies, and CQC readiness initiatives.
  6. Maintain adherence to standards and regulations, including JAG accreditation.
  7. Participate in policy development and standard operating procedures.
  8. Provide comprehensive patient assessments, diagnostics, and management.
  9. Perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures following protocols.
  10. Ensure proper pre-procedure assessments and informed consent processes.
  11. Interpret clinical findings and communicate effectively with patients and teams.
  12. Participate in clinician appraisals and recruitment processes.
  13. Maintain clinician fitness to practice.
Candidate Requirements
  • GMC registration with a license to practice.
  • Extensive experience as a Consultant Gastroenterologist.
  • Strong strategic planning and service improvement skills.
  • Proven leadership in healthcare settings.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
