Based at: Civic Office, Waterdale, Doncaster

Salary details: Grade 7, £28,598 to 31,537 + shift allowance (Pay award pending)

Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: 37 hours per week

Closing date: 9th June 2026

We have embarked on an ambitious programme of change in our city centre as part of our Regenerative Neighbourhood approach. Residents and businesses are telling us that our city centre needs to be safer, cleaner and more vibrant, and we are listening. We're going to start by recruiting local people who know the city and want to help it reach its full potential. If you are someone who wants to make a difference, our city centre needs you.

To support our ambition for a thriving and vibrant city centre, we are looking to recruit Neighbourhood Officers to join our City Centre team. Our staff work across seven days on a shift pattern which includes early starts, late evening finishes, and weekend working. The roles are focused on delivering a highly visible, community centred neighbourhood service, working directly with residents, businesses and partners to strengthen relationships, build trust and support the long term sustainability of the city centre.

The post holder must possess excellent communication and engagement skills and will be required to work collaboratively with multiple agencies to ensure that the correct support, advice and interventions are provided to residents, businesses and users of the city centre. As such, you will apply problem solving skills daily in what are challenging but highly rewarding roles. You must also enjoy working outdoors, being highly visible, and engaging directly with communities.

At the heart of this role is a strong community centred approach, where you will work alongside local people to understand their needs, build community capacity and support residents and businesses to play an active role in shaping their environment. You will provide a visible and reassuring presence, offering advice and guidance while developing positive relationships that promote trust and cohesion. Through early intervention and prevention, you will help address anti social behaviour, low level crime and wider community safety concerns, particularly by supporting vulnerable individuals and those most at risk.

You will work closely with partners and communities to problem solve day to day issues, using local knowledge and insight to develop practical, sustainable solutions. By gathering intelligence and working collaboratively, you will contribute to targeted activity that improves safety and quality of life in the city centre. You will also support the delivery of community led initiatives, events and regeneration activity, ensuring that local people are at the centre of how the city evolves and thrives.

In return for your contribution, we offer:

  • Competitive leave entitlement
  • Generous local government pension scheme
  • Wellbeing support and staff networks
  • Development and training opportunities
  • Staff discounts and benefits schemes
  • More information on benefits can be found in the attached benefits booklet.

City of Doncaster Council is committed to meeting the needs of our diverse community and improving quality of life for all. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and experiences and are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and adults.

We are a Disability Confident employer and committed to a fully inclusive and accessible recruitment process. We offer interviews to disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria and make reasonable adjustments as required.
