Children's Residential Deputy Manager

Location: Accrington Salary: From £40,000 per annum Hours: Monday to Friday, with flexibility to cover shifts when required Contract: Full-Time, Permanent

Key Responsibilities
  • Support and work alongside the Registered Manager in the effective management of the children's home.
  • Support with the management of the home's budget and resources.
  • Lead, support and develop the staff team to deliver high-quality, person-centred care.
  • Support the development of staff through regular supervision, appraisal and ongoing training.
  • Assist with the development and review of placement plans, risk assessments and positive handling plans.
  • Ensure the home operates in accordance with its Statement of Purpose and Function.
  • Promote positive outcomes for each young person through a therapeutic and activity-based approach.
  • Ensure staff understand and comply with relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the Children's Homes Regulations 2015, Quality Standards and SCCIF.
  • Support the Registered Manager in addressing recommendations and actions arising from Ofsted inspections.
  • Ensure safeguarding procedures are followed in line with relevant legislation and local authority procedures.
  • Ensure significant events, incidents, important changes and physical interventions are appropriately reported.
  • Work closely with social workers, families and other multi-agency professionals.
  • Ensure children's individual social, emotional, psychological, educational, cultural, physical and healthcare needs are met.
  • Support the day-to-day running of the home and work on shift when required.
  • Ensure health and safety, fire regulations and quality assurance requirements are maintained.
  • Monitor and address actions arising from Regulation 44 reports and internal quality assurance processes.
  • Act as a positive role model for both staff and young people.
  • Participate in the on-call system.
  • Ensure all mandatory training is completed within required timescales.
  • Promote a positive, safe and nurturing environment for children and young people.
What We're Looking For
  • Experience working with children and young people, ideally within a children's residential care setting.
  • Experience supporting children with social, emotional and mental health needs.
  • Previous experience in a Deputy Manager or Senior role within residential childcare is desirable.
  • Experience of line managing staff, including conducting supervisions, is desirable.
  • Level 3 Qualification in Children's Residential Care or equivalent.
  • Level 5 Qualification in Leadership & Management for Children's Services, or willingness to work towards it, is desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of child protection and safeguarding.
  • Understanding of the mental health needs of children and young people.
  • Knowledge of the Children Act and Children's Homes Regulations is desirable.
  • Understanding of therapeutic approaches to childcare is desirable.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to build positive relationships and support positive change.
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information.
  • Calm, approachable, adaptable and non-judgemental approach.
  • Resilience when working in challenging situations.

  • Must be aged 21 or over.
  • Full UK driving licence required.
