Chef Tutor - Specialist Further Education College & Training Hotel Minehead
Salary: £29,578 - £34,466
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time, Term Time Only
Hours: 40 hours per week (5 days)
Are you an experienced chef looking for a more rewarding career where your skills can genuinely change lives?
A leading specialist college and training hotel on the Somerset coast is seeking a passionate Chef Tutor to join its dedicated team. This unique setting supports young adults with learning disabilities, helping them develop the confidence, independence, employability and life skills needed to thrive in adulthood.
Unlike a traditional college, students learn within a fully operational hospitality environment, gaining real-world experience in catering, customer service and hotel operations. This creates an exciting opportunity for an experienced chef to pass on their industry knowledge while helping young people achieve meaningful outcomes and greater independence.
The Role
As a Chef Tutor, you will work within a professional kitchen environment, preparing and serving high-quality meals while supporting students to develop practical catering and hospitality skills. You will demonstrate industry best practice, coach students through hands-on learning experiences and help build their confidence in a supportive and inclusive setting.
Working closely with learning support staff and a wider multidisciplinary team, you'll help create engaging learning opportunities that prepare students for future employment within the hospitality industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, cook and present high-quality meals within a commercial hospitality setting.
- Demonstrate professional kitchen techniques and food preparation methods.
- Support students to develop catering, hospitality and employability skills.
- Maintain excellent food hygiene, health and safety standards.
- Encourage independence, confidence and personal development.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to provide an outstanding learning experience.
- Monitor progress and celebrate student achievements.
- Foster a positive, inclusive and supportive environment.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Experience working in a professional hospitality, catering or culinary environment.
- Level 2 Hospitality & Catering qualification (or equivalent).
- Level 2 English and Maths.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- A positive and patient approach to supporting young people with additional needs.
Desirable:
- Experience coaching, mentoring or training colleagues or apprentices.
- Previous experience supporting young people or adults with learning disabilities.
- Teaching, assessor or training qualifications.
No Teaching Qualification? No Problem!
This role is ideal for experienced chefs looking to move into education. Full training, mentoring and ongoing professional development are provided, including support to gain relevant teaching qualifications where required.
If you're looking for a fresh challenge where your culinary skills can inspire, educate and transform lives, we'd love to hear from you.
