Job Description

  • Rate: £500-550/day (Outside IR35)
  • Duration: 6-month initial contract
  • Hybrid: 3 days per week onsite in Central London
About the Role and Client
We are looking for an experienced Check Point Firewall Engineer to join a network security team on a 6-month contract. This role is ideal for a hands-on security engineer with deep expertise in Check Point technologies, capable of owning large-scale Firewall rulebase clean-ups, restructures, and optimisations within a complex enterprise environment.

You will act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Check Point Firewalls, supporting both project work and operational requirements, including 3rd line support when needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and deliver large-scale Check Point Firewall rule clean-ups, restructures, and new rule creation
  • Review, assess, and optimise existing Firewall configurations to improve security posture, performance, and maintainability
  • Ensure Firewall rules align with security best practices, compliance standards, and organisational policies
  • Act as a Check Point SME, providing expert guidance to internal teams
  • Provide 3rd line operational support for Firewall-related incidents, faults, and complex changes
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex network security issues in a timely manner
  • Produce and maintain clear technical documentation for Firewall changes and configurations
  • Collaborate with network, security, and infrastructure teams on wider security initiatives

Essential Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years' hands-on experience working with Check Point Firewalls in enterprise environments
  • Strong experience with Check Point rulebase design, clean-up, optimisation, and restructuring
  • In-depth knowledge of Check Point platforms (eg R80.x, SmartConsole, Management Servers)
  • Proven experience reviewing and improving existing Firewall architectures
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and experience providing 3rd line support
  • Solid understanding of network security principles (TCP/IP, routing, NAT, VPNs)
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of complex Firewall tasks

Desirable Skills
  • Experience in large, complex, or highly regulated environments
  • Exposure to automation, Scripting, or Firewall management tooling
  • Relevant certifications (eg CCSA, CCSE) are advantageous
