Job Description
Overview

CFS Senior Social Worker - Post Order Team. This contract role (initial period of 2 weeks) focuses on post-order care and supporting adoptive families. The position offers an opportunity to make a difference for children and families within a supportive environment.

Responsibilities
  • Provide emotional and practical support to Special Guardians and adoptive families.
  • Assist families to adjust to new dynamics and challenges.
  • Advise on parenting strategies, especially for children with trauma or attachment needs.
  • Identify and report safeguarding concerns to safeguarding teams.
  • Attend conferences and Child in Need (CiN) meetings when appropriate.
  • Support children and families to manage trauma, loss, identity, and attachment issues.
  • Refer and coordinate therapeutic services such as counselling, CAMHS, and play therapy.
  • Assist families in understanding the impact of early experiences on behaviour.
  • Conduct post-order assessments for support services or funding such as ASF.
  • Evaluate ongoing needs of children and families.
  • Manage referrals within a busy duty system.
  • Advocate for access to education, health, or specialist services.
  • Liaise with schools, health professionals, and other agencies.
  • Support children in understanding their life history and adoption journey.
  • Provide or update life story materials.
  • Lead training, workshops, or guidance on attachment and trauma-informed care.
  • Participate in family events and support coffee mornings for Special Guardians.
  • Assist the birth records counsellor with access and redaction of birth files for adult adoptees.
Qualifications / Experience

Experience as a CFS Senior Social Worker with post-order care and experience supporting adoptive families. Ability to work with safeguarding teams and multi-agency professionals, and to provide trauma- and attachment-informed support.
