Hours: 21 hours per week
Contract: Fixed term until June 2027

Are you passionate about supporting your local community? Do you thrive in a varied role where no two days are the same? St Vincent's Wirral is looking for a Centre Officer to join our friendly, dedicated team and help us continue providing vital services to people across the Wirral.

About the Role

As Centre Officer, you will play a key part in ensuring the smooth running of our centre. Working closely with the Centre Manager, activities coordinators, and volunteers, you will help deliver a welcoming, safe, and supportive environment for all who visit.

Your work will directly support individuals and families facing hardship, loneliness, or crisis; making this a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference in the community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the delivery of activities, groups, and classes that reflect local community needs.
  • Assist with administrative duties including answering enquiries, collecting data, and supporting social media updates.
  • Help with the recruitment, training, and supervision of volunteers.
  • Welcome visitors warmly, offering information and support regarding centre services.
  • Ensure all sessions follow Health & Safety and safeguarding procedures.
  • Act as a point of contact for external organisations using the centre.
  • Support with fundraising ideas and initiatives.
  • Assist with opening/closing the centre as a key holder when needed.
  • Provide sensitive, confidential support to beneficiaries, signposting or referring them to relevant services such as SVP support, the clothes bank, or foodbank referrals.
  • Contribute to the general upkeep, cleanliness, and smooth day to day running of the centre.
About You

We're looking for someone who is friendly, organised, and compassionate, with a genuine desire to help others. You will need to feel comfortable supporting people in crisis and be able to stay calm under pressure.

Essential Skills & Experience
  • GCSEs (A -C) in English & Maths or equivalent.
  • Experience working in a fast paced environment.
  • Experience supporting vulnerable people, including those facing complex issues or crisis situations.
  • Strong communication skills (written, telephone, and face to face).
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and Health & Safety.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Empathic approach aligned with SVP ethos and values.
Desirable
  • Experience in the charity or voluntary sector.
  • Experience supervising or training volunteers.
  • Experience using social media to support organisational communications.
