Catering Assistant FTC - UPMC Aut Even Hospital, Kilkenny

Location: Aut Even Hospital
Job type: Fixed Term

Overview of role

UPMC is hiring a Catering Assistant on a 6 month fixed term contract to deliver an efficient and timely service to all patients while maintaining a quality service. To provide a high quality service in line with infection control standards and protocols throughout the organisation and to adhere to HACCP regulations at all times.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Catering Duties

  • Tray setting, cleaning trays and contents.
  • Taking patient meal orders paying particular attention to dietary requirements.
  • Serving meals and communicate with nursing staff regarding patients dietary requirements.
  • Clean equipment and associated work areas in accordance with cleaning schedules using recommended detergents, to leave catering and service areas clean and hygienic at the end of the shift.
  • Work closely with the Catering Supervisor, Ward Managers, Hospital Dietician and other staff members as appropriate to ensure that the nutritional and dietary requirements of patients are provided for.
  • May be required to work in the hospital canteen/Coffee Dock to cover leave.

Housekeeping / Cleaning

  • Maintain the correct standard as per housekeeping and HACCP guidelines.
  • Clean equipment and associated areas of work in accordance with cleaning schedules using recommended procedures.
  • Comply with hospital procedures and standards of dress and personal hygiene.
  • Comply with any reasonable request as directed by the Catering Manager or other designated supervisor/manager.

Temperature Monitoring

  • Record and monitor the temperature of all food in line HACCP Standards.
  • Check the temperature of all fridge's, freezers and dish washer as required in line with the HACCP standards.

Training

  • Attend HACCP Training.
  • Attend all Mandatory education sessions.

Accreditation

  • Familiarize themselves with policies, procedures and guidelines directly related to your area.
  • Assist in the review of policies, procedures and Guidelines under the direction of the chapter lead/department manager.

Lean

  • Support and participate with others to problem solve and continuously improve using the lean tools and techniques.
  • Attend/participate on-site training as required.
  • Minimising waste, improving waste reduction.

Quality & Safety - Safe Culture

  • Quality and safety are rooted in the daily work of all individuals at Aut Even Hospital. As an employee you are required to actively participate throughout your working day in the pursuit of excellence.
  • Work in conjunction with your line manager in the planning, monitoring, analyzing and improvement of all quality programs.
  • Participate in the development of performance indicators in conjunction with your department manager and the business objectives.
  • Initiate, participate in and evaluate audit according to JCI, Hospital policy and Lean requirements under the guidance and support of an audit lead.

Health and Safety

  • Aut Even employees are required to ensure that they take reasonable care to protect their own safety, health and welfare and that of any other person who may be affected by their acts or omissions.
  • Co-operate with Aut Even Hospital to ensure safety, health and welfare at work and report anything potentially dangerous at work of which they become aware. Staff are expected to abide by guidelines/policies and all incidents and near misses.
  • All employees are required to attend education sessions on Fire, Health & Safety on an annual basis.

Personnel

  • Follow uniform policy reference AEH/HOS/FAC/021.

General

  • Through the course of the working day or week there may be a requirement to work in other areas of the hospital.
  • Staff must produce satisfactory documentary evidence of all training and experience claimed by them, if required to do so by the organisation.
  • Respect the Mission Statement of the Hospital.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Educated to Leaving Cert or equivalent.
  • Up-to-date HACCP training.
  • Interpersonal & Communication Skills.
  • Demonstrate excellent listening and verbal communication skills.
  • Display effective communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to work with other disciplines.
  • Able to work under pressure and deliver results to tight deadlines.
  • Willingness to adapt positively to change.
  • Self-disciplined and able to manage own time, to respond to changing priorities and workload to achieve targets.
  • A strong commitment to high quality customer service and commitment to continuous improvement.

Desirable

  • Previous work experience is desirable.

Salary: €30,000.00 - €38,796.00 per annum based on a 39 hour week.
