Peppa Pig Surprise Party is a brand new immersive theatrical experience inspired by the beloved children's television series. Located within the Metrocentre in Gateshead, guests are invited to step into Peppa's world, travelling by train to Peppatown where they will interact with performers, puppets, games, and story led activities.

The experience combines live performance, puppetry, lighting, audio, show control systems, real time video, CCTV monitoring, and interactive installations to create a highly engaging family attraction.

We are seeking experienced and proactive casual technicians to support the day to day operation of the production. Working as part of the Technical team, the Casual Technician supports the safe and efficient operation of all technical elements across the attraction, helping to create a magical and seamless experience for every guest.

This role is responsible for operating and maintaining show systems, supporting live performances and interactive experiences, troubleshooting technical issues, and ensuring all equipment is presented and operated to the highest standards. The Casual Technician will work closely with the Technical Manager and Venue Management teams to deliver a consistent, safe, and engaging experience for families visiting the attraction.

Job Overview

The Casual Show Technician supports the safe and reliable operation of all technical elements of Peppa Pig Surprise Party.

Working as part of the technical team, technicians will rotate between operational roles including Show Control and Show Running, helping to deliver a consistent, high quality experience for every guest.

The role requires a practical approach to troubleshooting, strong communication skills, and a willingness to take ownership of technical issues as they arise. Due to the guest facing nature of the attraction, technicians will regularly interact with visitors and support the wider operational team throughout the day.

Key Responsibilities Show Operations Show Control Operator
  • Operate QLab and associated show control systems.
  • Monitor live CCTV and system status throughout performances.
  • Coordinate technical responses to issues as they arise during operation.
  • Maintain communication with technical, operations, and performance teams using radio communications systems.
  • Escalate faults and incidents to the Technical Manager when required.
  • Support audience flow and operational timing by providing information to other departments.
  • Lead implementation of emergency and contingency procedures from the control room when required.
  • Maintain accurate records of faults, incidents, and operational issues.
Show Runner
  • Provide operational cover for the Show Control Operator during breaks and busy periods.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to technical issues during performances.
  • Support performers, Front of House teams, and operational staff to maintain smooth show delivery.
  • Assist with resetting props, scenic elements, and interactive experiences between performances.
  • Distribute, fit, collect, and maintain radio microphones.
  • Troubleshoot microphone, audio, and show equipment issues during operation.
  • Assist guests when required in a professional, approachable, and family friendly manner.
  • Support the overall guest experience by helping maintain safe and efficient operations throughout the venue.
Technical Maintenance and Support
  • Carry out daily pre opening technical checks and inspections.
  • Monitor system performance throughout operating hours.
  • Perform basic repairs and maintenance including soldering, prop repairs, cable repairs, and electrical fault finding.
  • Replace and maintain lighting, audio, video, show control, and network equipment.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance programmes.
  • Support installation of replacement equipment, upgrades, and system improvements.
  • Provide basic IT support across Mac and Windows based systems.
  • Maintain technical workspaces, equipment stores, and spare parts inventories.
  • Report faults, damage, and maintenance requirements to the Technical Manager.
Health & Safety
  • Work safely and in accordance with company policies, risk assessments, and safe systems of work.
  • Use appropriate PPE and equipment where required.
  • Support safe operation of technical equipment and public spaces.
  • Report hazards, incidents, and near misses promptly.
  • Assist with emergency procedures when required.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping within technical areas.
Teamwork & Guest Experience
  • Work collaboratively with performers, operations staff, Front of House teams, and fellow technicians.
  • Maintain a positive, professional, and approachable attitude when interacting with guests.
  • Contribute to creating a welcoming and enjoyable environment for families and children.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in response to changing operational requirements.
  • Support the wider team in delivering an exceptional guest experience.
Working Hours

This role is offered on a casual basis with hours varying according to operational demand. As a family focused attraction, working patterns differ significantly between peak and off peak periods.

Peak Periods

School holidays and peak trading periods are expected to offer approximately 30-40 hours per week.

Off Peak Periods

The attraction primarily operates at weekends. Additional hours may be available through private events, experience days, maintenance activities, and special bookings.

The role is therefore well suited to freelance technicians, students, or individuals seeking flexible employment alongside other commitments. Weekend working will form a regular part of the schedule. Unlike traditional theatre environments, there is no routine late evening operation. Flexibility and availability during busy periods are essential.

Qualifications
  • Minimum one two years' professional experience within technical theatre, live events, attractions, or a related field, or a relevant technical theatre qualification.
  • Working knowledge of QLab and ETC Eos.
  • Comfortable using radio communications systems within a live operational environment.
  • Basic fault finding and troubleshooting skills across lighting, audio, video, and IT systems.
  • Comfortable using both MacOS and Windows operating systems.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Confident and approachable when engaging with members of the public.
  • Reliable, organised, and able to work independently.
  • Calm and effective under pressure.
  • Willingness to learn new systems and technologies.
  • Experience working safely at height.
  • Experience working within immersive theatre, themed entertainment, visitor attractions, or site specific productions.
  • Familiarity with networked AV systems and show control infrastructure.
  • Experience with interactive technologies, sensors, triggers, and automation systems.
  • Previous Front of House, guest experience, or visitor facing experience.
  • Experience supporting performers and live productions.
  • Stage management or live show running experience.
