Café/Front of House Assistant

Salary: £13.45 per hour (Supervisor Cover Rate £13.59ph)

Hours: Part time, 15 Hours per week

Contract: Permanent

Location: Land of Oak and Iron Heritage Centre, Winlaton Mill, Gateshead, NE21

About the Role

Join the team at the beautiful Land of Oak & Iron Heritage Centre, a unique visitor destination set within the stunning Derwent Valley.

This employer is looking for a Café / Front of House Assistant to support their busy café and visitor centre. This is a varied, hands-on role where no two days are the same. You'll help create a welcoming experience for visitors while assisting with food preparation and maintaining high standards across the café.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Providing excellent customer service
  • Operating the till and handling payments
  • Making hot drinks and serving customers
  • Assisting with food preparation
  • Maintaining cleanliness and food hygiene standards
  • Receiving and organising deliveries
  • Supporting day-to-day café operations

Additional Opportunity

You'll occasionally deputise for the Catering Supervisor, supporting the management of the café, supervising team members, helping coordinate room hires, and assisting with opening and closing procedures. Previous experience is preferred, but full training will be provided.
