C# Developer UK

We are looking for a C# Developerto join a team working for our UK-based client - the national mapping agency for Great Britain and a global leader in geospatial data and digital mapping solutions. You will be part of a project focused on building a comprehensive digital map of underground assets in the UK, contributing to the development of data pipelines, backend services, and a frontend application that supports critical decision-making across government and industry.
This is a backend-focused role where you will design and develop scalable cloud-native services in Microsoft Azure, ensuring performance, reliability, and maintainability of the platform. You will work closely with DevOps engineers, product owners, and frontend teams to build and optimize services that handle large volumes of data, including - though not exclusively - geospatial datasets.
Responsibilities:- Develop and maintain backend applications using C# and .NET Core / Framework
- Design and implement RESTful APIs, microservices, and asynchronous processing logic
- Build scalable, secure, and cloud-native solutions using Microsoft Azure services (e.g. Azure Functions, App Services, Azure Storage, Azure SQL, Service Bus)
- Participate in the entire software development lifecycle, from requirements to deployment
- Write clean, maintainable code following SOLID principles and clean architecture practices
- Collaborate with frontend developers, QA, DevOps, and business teams in Agile/Scrum workflows
- Troubleshoot and optimize system performance and reliability
- Contribute to code reviews, system design sessions, and documentation
- (Bonus) Work with geospatial data and services when needed (e.g. GeoJSON, spatial queries, Azure Maps)
Requirements:
- Solid professional experience developing backend systems in C#
- Hands-on experience with .NET Core/.NET Framework, Entity Framework, and REST API development
- Proficiency in Azure cloud services and deployment pipelines
- Familiarity with microservices architecture and distributed systems
- Strong debugging, problem-solving, and performance optimization skills
- Excellent communication skills and collaborative mindset
- Familiarity with SQL Server or other relational databases
- (Nice to have) Basic knowledge of geospatial data formats or spatial queries
Contract details:
- Start Date: September 2025
- Contract Length: 18 months
- Security Clearance: Mandatory
- Eligibility to work in the UK: Mandatory
Location:
Fully remote within the UK, with potential business trips to Southampton every 4-6 weeks.
