Job Description

Finance Analyst

Robert Half are delighted to be partnering with Proper Cornish in their recruitment of an outstanding finance analyst

Since 1988, Proper Cornish has been creating award-winning Cornish pasties and savoury pastry products from the heart of Cornwall. With over 35 years of heritage, a team of more than 260 colleagues and a vision to be the UK's preferred supplier, Proper Cornish combines traditional craftsmanship with continuous innovation. As the business continues to grow and evolve, we're looking for a commercially minded Financial Planning & Analysis Accountant to join our finance team in Bodmin.

This is a newly created opportunity with real visibility across the business, partnering closely with Sales, Operations and Senior Leadership whilst helping shape future reporting, forecasting and business intelligence capability.

Why Join Proper Cornish?

This is far more than a traditional reporting role, you'll take ownership of sales reporting, forecasting, budgeting and performance insight across a fast-paced FMCG manufacturing environment. You'll be joining an open, down-to-earth and supportive culture where personality matters just as much as technical ability. The team works collaboratively, communicates honestly and isn't afraid to show a bit of emotion and humour along the way.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Financial Controller, you'll act as a key link between Finance and Sales, ensuring the business has accurate, meaningful and timely information to support decision making.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the annual budgeting and forecasting process
  • Producing insightful sales, margin and profitability reporting
  • Developing and maintaining financial models and reporting tools
  • Providing account-level analysis for major customers and sales managers
  • Managing rebate calculations, accruals and customer reporting
  • Supporting month-end reporting and financial analysis
  • Producing ad hoc commercial reporting and trend analysis
  • Working closely with stakeholders across Sales, Procurement, Operations and Finance
  • Driving reporting improvements, automation and process efficiency
  • Supporting group reporting requirements and data development initiatives
  • Utilising Excel, Power BI and data tools to turn information into actionable business insight

About You

We're open to a variety of backgrounds and welcome applications from:

  • Qualified ACA, ACCA or CIMA accountants
  • Experienced part-qualified accountants with strong commercial analysis skills
  • First movers from practice looking for their first industry role
  • Second movers seeking broader commercial exposure

You'll ideally bring:

  • Strong Excel skills, including Power Query and advanced data manipulation
  • Experience working with large datasets and complex reporting
  • Exposure to Power BI and business intelligence reporting
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Confidence working with non-finance stakeholders
  • A proactive approach and ability to work independently
  • Manufacturing, FMCG or food production experience (desirable)

What's in It for You?

  • Salary £40,000 - £45,000
  • Annual bonus of up to 5%
  • Hybrid working (3 days office / 2 days home) + wider benefits
  • Great food, on us - From free staff bakes and fresh fruit to quarterly team BBQs and a subsidised canteen, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy good food with colleagues. It's a popular perk that adds to the friendly and social atmosphere across the business.

A Business Built on Values

At Proper Cornish, quality, customer focus, honesty, friendliness and passion underpin everything they do. From producing over 76,000 pasties a day to supplying customers nationwide, the business combines Cornish heritage with a commitment to excellence and continuous improvement.

If you're an ambitious accountant who enjoys turning data into insight, partnering with stakeholders and making a genuine commercial impact, please contact me to discuss this exciting role further.
