Plextek provides broad and innovative design and engineering services across a range of sectors (consumer, defence, industrial, utilities, healthcare, automotive, security, and space). Consequently, the work is varied, interesting and often technically challenging.

Historically, Plextek has developed a strong reputation and capability within the defence sector, and consequently this new role is to focus on markets outside of this.

Plextek now seeks a Business Development Lead who will drive growth in markets related to RF systems including; communications, sensing technologies, and radar solutions. This role bridges technical expertise with commercial strategy, identifying opportunities, engaging customers, qualifying leads, developing opportunities, and closing sales.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage a robust sales pipeline which meets or exceeds revenue and growth targets
  • Identify and develop business opportunities in RF, communications, sensing, and radar applications
  • Analyse market trends, competitor positioning, and emerging technologies
  • Translate complex RF and sensing technologies into clear value propositions
  • Work closely with engineering teams to tailor solutions to customer needs and support proposal development
  • Lead customer meetings, presentations, and negotiations
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers
  • Provide accurate forecasting and reporting
  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and trade shows

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A good first degree, preferably in engineering or physics
  • At least 10 years of post-graduate work experience, with at least five years' proven experience in Business Development, preferably relating to consulting sales
  • Strong understanding of RF systems, wireless communications, sensing, or radar technologies
  • A passion for establishing new business relationships and building a significant leads and sales pipeline in markets outside of Defence
  • A demonstrable track record of closing over £1m in new orders pa for a minimum of three years in a B2B service environment
  • Proven ability to understand customers' strategic, commercial and technology challenges
  • Established network within relevant industries
  • Experience of research and development and the commercialisation of both technologies and products
  • Strong presentation skills and the ability to develop and deliver effective sales campaigns
