Location: London / Sheffield / Hybrid Working

(Expectation that you will attend an office 2 days per week)

Contract: 12 Month Fixed Term Contract

Hours: Full time 37.5 hours per week/flexible days and/or hours (Mon-Fri)

Salary: £25,000 - £31,000 Depending on Experience & Location

About the Role

We are looking for a dedicated and customer focused Business Advisor to join our Credit and Lending team.

You will play an important role in helping small and early stage businesses access finance and realise their potential. Working within a target driven environment, you will guide applicants through their loan journey from initial enquiry to loan assessment. Ensuring that each business is supported with care, professionalism, and integrity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a portfolio of applicants, providing guidance and support to help them access funding.
  • Assess business plans, cash flow forecasts, and other supporting documents in line with lending standards.
  • Build strong relationships with applicants and maintain excellent customer service throughout the process.
  • Make balanced lending decisions, ensuring all assessments meet compliance and quality standards.
  • Provide ongoing mentoring and support to help loan recipients sustain and grow their businesses.
  • Share knowledge and best practice with colleagues to enhance team performance and the customer experience.
  • Ensure all work complies with regulatory requirements, data protection, and internal policies.
About You

You will be someone who enjoys working collaboratively and takes pride in helping others succeed. You are comfortable managing multiple tasks, working to targets with strong communication skills, and be able to use your initiative to make sound, fair decisions.

Essential skills and experience
  • Proven experience working in a target driven environment.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to analyse business and financial information.
  • Understanding of the needs of small businesses and entrepreneurs.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
Desirable
  • Experience in business plan assessment or small business lending.
  • Understanding of FCA guidance on Treating Customers Fairly (TCF).
  • Previous experience supporting process improvement or change initiatives.
