About the role
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Building Services Engineer to join our Engineering team. In this pivotal role, you'll help ensure UCL's estate remains fit for purpose, legally compliant, sustainable, and future-ready. You will design, manage, and deliver mechanical & electrical projects, from refurbishments and alterations to new builds and major plant replacements.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to projects across a wide range of building types, including historic, scientific, and educational facilities, while supporting UCL's Sustainability Strategy and carbon reduction goals.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver mechanical & electrical design solutions for maintenance, refurbishment, and new build works
Manage projects end-to-end - surveys, design, tendering, contract administration, cost control
Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, health & safety, and UCL standards
Identify and develop energy-saving opportunities
Provide professional advice to colleagues across Estates and UCL departments
Collaborate with suppliers, manage risks, and ensure successful project delivery
Support UCL's infrastructure strategy and contribute to sustainability goals
We're looking for someone who brings both technical expertise and a collaborative approach. You will have:
A BTEC HNC/HND in Mechanical or Electrical Services (or equivalent experience)
Strong track record of designing and managing projects (£5k-£1m) across varied building types
Knowledge of modern energy conservation methods (HVAC, refrigeration, combustion, lighting, energy management)
Solid understanding of statutory regulations (e.g., CDM, COSHH, Legionella, Health & Safety at Work)
Excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with high standards of delivery
