Job Description

To provide an efficient, effective and value for money customer focused support service for Building Control, providing customer engagement responding to all enquiries, emails, and technical telephone enquiries. To proactively participate in the marketing of the service to both new and existing customers, contributing and participating within events.

Cheshire East Council is looking for a motivated and customer-focused Building Control Support Officer to join our Building Control Service. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering an efficient, effective and value-for-money support service to customers, colleagues, developers and elected members.

Working as part of a busy and professional team, you will be responsible for providing excellent customer service, managing enquiries, supporting operational processes, maintaining accurate records and helping to promote the Building Control Service to both new and existing customers.

As a Building Control Support Officer, you will act as a key point of contact for customers and stakeholders, ensuring enquiries are handled efficiently and professionally. You will provide administrative and business support to the Building Control team, helping to ensure applications, financial processes and service requests are managed accurately and within agreed timescales.

You will also contribute to the promotion and marketing of the service, taking part in engagement activities and events to help build positive relationships with customers and duty holders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receive, process and record Building Regulation applications.
  • Enter and maintain accurate data within service databases, document management systems and GIS systems.
  • Manage financial administration processes, including receipting orders, recording income and expenditure, and monitoring outstanding payments.
  • Liaise with professional officers, monitoring progress and chasing decisions where required.
  • Respond to telephone and email enquiries from members of the public, colleagues and elected members, referring more complex technical matters to the appropriate officer.

About you:
  • Has excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Is highly organised with strong administrative and data management abilities.
  • Can manage a varied workload and prioritise tasks effectively.
  • Is confident communicating with a wide range of stakeholders, including customers, developers and elected members.
  • Has strong attention to detail and can maintain accurate records.
