Job Description

RTÉ is Ireland's national public-service media organisation. We are embarking upon an ambitious and exciting 5-year transformation strategy to update the way we run the organisation. Our mission is to serve as an independent source of stories, news, information and entertainment for Ireland, reflecting the diversity of its people and providing experiences that enrich the lives of all.

This sense of purpose motivates us to deliver to the highest standards in an environment that is collaborative, supportive and engaging. Attracting and retaining the best talent is key in delivering to our audiences. We want our people to thrive in an environment that values their output.

Meet the Team

At RTÉ First Line Response, we provide technical support for the systems and services that enable RTÉ's television, radio and digital operations. As part of an ongoing transformation programme, we are bringing together support functions across radio, television and content production into a single multi-skilled technical support team.

We are looking for a Broadcast Engineer to support a broad range of business-critical broadcast and production systems. This includes transmission and playout services, newsroom systems, editing platforms, content production tools, and IP-based media infrastructure. Reporting to the Manager, RTÉ First Line Response, you will work within a team responsible for maintaining service availability, resolving technical issues, supporting users, and contributing to the continued development of RTÉ's technology platforms. It is also our intention to form a Panel from this competition which may be used to fill any future vacancies that arise in the coming 12 months.

About the Role

  • Provide technical support for RTÉ's broadcast and production systems, including transmission, playout, newsroom and content production environments.

  • Support business-critical platforms including Avid Media Composer, iNews, media asset management systems, contribution and distribution services, and associated broadcast technologies.

  • Diagnose, investigate and resolve incidents affecting users, systems and services, ensuring minimal disruption to RTÉ operations and output.

  • Support and maintain IP-based video, audio and routing infrastructure, working across both operational and IT environments.

  • Work closely with engineering teams, operational departments and third-party vendors to support upgrades, projects, maintenance activities and service improvements.

  • Provide operational support for live broadcasts and production activities, assisting with routing, feeds, contribution services and continuity arrangements when required.

About You

  • Experience supporting broadcast, media, production or enterprise technology systems in a technical environment.

  • A qualification in Broadcast Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or be able to demonstrate equivalent professional experience.

  • Knowledge of one or more of the following areas: transmission, playout, newsroom systems, Avid editing platforms, media asset management, IP networking, audio/video routing, cloud services or media workflows.

  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills with the ability to analyse and resolve complex technical issues.

  • Good understanding of computer hardware, operating systems, networking and virtualised environments.

  • Strong communication and customer support skills with the ability to engage effectively with operational users, technical teams and external suppliers.

  • Ability to work methodically in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities and responding to service-impacting incidents.

  • A qualification in Broadcast Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or be able to demonstrate equivalent professional experience.

The role involves participation in shift-based support arrangements and will require working outside normal office hours.

This appointment will be made at the Broadcast Engineer grade and is being offered on a permanent contract basis. The salary scale for this grade is from €52,742 to €66,648 gross per annum.
