We are currently seeking a BIM SME with data centre experience to work in our Global Engineering Team. In this global role, you will drive standards, consistency, and continuous improvement of BIM and Document Control procedures.

You will report to the Head of BIM, part of the Real Estate Development Team in Colt DCS.

You will support in driving the improvement of COLTs BIM standards, design automation, process improvement, performance reporting & quality assurance across our growing portfolio of Data Centres. As the Subject Matter Expert (SME), you will provide guidance globally to internal & external stakeholders ensuring adherence to the Colt EIRs & DCS Global Reference Design (GRD). You will own the BIM OFCI equipment management ensuring BIM Families are received from vendors & support the procurement, OFCI delivery & technical teams.

You will ensure that EIRs & BIM processes are kept up to date considering new legislation, technologies, efficiency & best available techniques which improve speed to market & design quality.

Job Summary

OUTCOMES

The BIM Implementation SME will primarily be responsible for supporting the Head of BIM in developing Global Initiatives and updating Global BIM standards. They will also ensure a baseline of BIM delivery across all regions via project BIM auditing and managing adoption at project level. As the SME for BIM, they will provide technical support to project BIM & Document control teams, own the OFCI BIM process, and support its implementation at project level. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Project auditing to ensure BIM managers & CDR correctly implement standards
  2. Ensure ACC use complies with intended use
  3. Monitor & support Doc Control system implementation at project level
  4. Support R&D activities
  5. Update COLT Global Standard Documentation & produce new standards
  6. Improve BIM processes & procedures
  7. Support Global Engineering Team in Developing Generative Design Solutions
  8. Assist Interior Architects with Test Fit process improvements
  9. Provide technical support to the wider team, including scanning processes
  10. Support project Document Controllers & BIM Managers
  11. Collaborate with Data Analyst to produce dashboards & performance reports
  12. Manage OFCI BIM process and support OFCI delivery team
  13. Attend industry conferences to maintain knowledge
  14. Report BIM matters to Head of BIM
  15. Support system/platform/process rollouts and improvements
  16. Keep BIM standards documentation current

The Team

The Global Engineering Team, reporting to the Senior Global Director of Development, comprises subject matter experts responsible for maintaining the GRD and OFCI equipment standards, ensuring project compliance with delivery plans. The broader Development Team handles land acquisition, procurement, and pre-construction activities. Regional Engineering Teams provide design authority and escalate technical challenges to the Global Engineering Team.

The Skill and Expertise
  • Strong information management skills and experience in large projects
  • Proven governance and implementation in information management
  • Experience reviewing Data Centre Design & Models; Mechanical or Electrical background preferred
  • Good understanding of ACC use
  • Proficiency in Revit, Navisworks, RECAP
  • Experience with field verification (Scan-to-BIM)
  • Experience working with clients, contractors, consultants
  • Ability to write policy statements and guidance documents
  • Knowledge of project management tools and lifecycle phases
  • Understanding of Quality Management & ISO 19650
  • Organized, detail-oriented, self-sufficient
  • People management experience preferred
  • Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Office and Power BI or similar
  • Willingness to travel as needed
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; additional languages such as French, German, Japanese are a plus

Technical Knowledge

  • ISO BIM Standards
  • BIM Modelling & Management processes
  • Revit family creation & management
  • Use of BIM in feasibility and operational phases
  • Data analytics & reporting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in construction or engineering discipline
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in construction or consultancy
  • Experience in Mission Critical facilities, healthcare, labs, industrial, aerospace industries
  • Fluent in English; other languages are a plus
  • Deep knowledge of information management in design & engineering
  • Familiarity with 3D authoring and validation tools
  • Knowledge of Generative Design AI tools is highly desirable
