Role Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to become part of the Bereavement Services ground staff team at Coney Hill Cemetery and Crematorium.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain the grounds to a high standard, operating machinery, mowing, hedge trimming, edging and cultivation, manuring and site preparation of beds and shrubberies, sweeping, hoeing, cleaning leaves and litter, and other duties relating to the Cemetery and Crematorium gardens.
  • Prepare graves for burials, ensuring that excavated soil is covered, placing out boards, matting and logs, excavating graves both manually and mechanically while observing all prescribed health and safety practices, including shoring at all times and covering immediately after completion.
  • Interact with bereaved families on a daily basis, delivering empathy, clear communication and excellent customer care skills.
What we need from you
  • Self motivated and enthusiastic support for mortuary grounds maintenance.
  • High empathy, good communication and customer care skills.
  • Ability to operate machinery and follow health and safety procedures.
  • Fluency in spoken English and right to work for at least six months.
  • Willingness to comply with the council's safeguarding and equality commitments.
