Job Description
Bank Domestic Assistant

We are currently looking for flexible, adaptable, and reliable Bank Domestic Assistants who may already have some experience working within a hospital or care setting, to work as part of our friendly and growing team.

You will become part of a dedicated team who are passionate about supporting the NHS and its staff in their vital work by keeping premises clean, safe and hygienic. Bank contracts are great for those who need a bit more flexibility or an ideal opportunity to come in and try a role to see if it suits you before looking at a permanent contract.

Successful candidates will be expected to work across the Basingstoke site, carrying out services in a professional, efficient, friendly and polite manner.

Typical shift times are 7.30 am to 3.30 pm, 12.00 midday to 8.00 pm, 5.00 pm to 8.00 pm or 10.00 pm, and 5.50 pm to 1.30 am over 7 days per week. There may be some flexibility offered with these hours.

Main duties of the job
  • Vacuum cleaning; mopping; dusting; cleaning mirrors, baths, showers, sinks, toilets; washing tiled surfaces, paintwork; walls and ceilings.
  • Emptying and cleaning bins and ensuring paper towels, toilet tissue and hand soap dispensers are replenished.
  • If working in a ward, additional duties include washing up and cleaning the kitchen, helping to serve drinks, and performing basic laundry duties.
What experience and skills do you need?
  • No prior experience required - full training and support will be provided.
  • Good basic level of English to communicate with patients, visitors and staff, and to report any issues and keep basic records.
  • Values of caring and a willingness to make a difference in the provision of excellent care.
Things to consider before applying
  • Physically demanding role involving moving/using equipment, furniture, stretching, reaching, bending and repetitive movement.
  • Exposure to dirt, dust and smell.
  • Consider logistics of travel and suitability of early start or part time hours.

Qualifications and Training
  • Good general education at GCSE level or equivalent.
  • NVQ or Customer Care training.
Experience
  • Knowledge of COSHH regulations.
  • Knowledge of manual handling and health and safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of Infection Control procedures.
  • Experience working within a healthcare environment.
  • Experience using floor machinery.
Skills & Abilities
  • Autonomous application of knowledge, skills and experience.
  • Effective communication with patients, ward staff and the Domestic Team.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team.
Other Specific Requirements
  • Will be willing to work flexible hours and handle a pressured workload to meet organisational needs.
  • Occasional need to support services across the site for escalation and training purposes.
