Job Description
Band 6 Trainee PCE-Counsellor for Depression - Wiltshire

The Talking Therapies service offers support to patients who may be experiencing common mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety and low mood, offering a range of evidence based treatments.

This is a band 6 developmental role, moving to band 7 once training, accreditation and clinical hours are successfully completed.

The training course starts in July 2026, with a planned start date in June; the post is hybrid, with some work from home.

Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist psychological assessments and therapy whilst completing CfD training with the Metanoia organisation.
  • Provide at least one NICE recommended psychological therapy for anxiety disorders and/or depression (counselling for depression).
  • Formulate and implement plans for formal psychological treatment and/or management of clients' mental health problems, based on an appropriate conceptual framework and evidence based methods.
  • Evaluate and make decisions about treatment options taking into account theoretical and therapeutic models and the complex historical and developmental processes that shape clients.
  • Exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of clients whose problems are managed by psychologically based standard care plans.
Qualifications
  • Diploma in humanistic or person centred counselling or psychotherapy.
  • Evidence of working towards BACP Counsellor/Psychotherapy accreditation or equivalent.
  • Minimum two years post qualifying experience providing brief counselling to clients with common mental health problems, particularly depression.
