Backend Developer

Description

We are partnering with one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in seeking a highly skilled Backend Engineer to join one of our cross-functional product teams responsible for building and scaling next-generation Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS) capabilities. The successful candidate will help design, develop, and maintain secure, cloud-native Back End systems that power customer-facing financial products and services.

This is a 12-month contract with a strong likelihood of extension, offering a predominantly remote working model with just 2 days onsite per month in Warsaw, Poland.

Key Responsibilities

Software Engineering

• Design, develop, test, and maintain high-quality Back End services and APIs.
• Produce clean, maintainable, reusable, and well-documented code.
• Build highly available, resilient, and scalable microservices.
• Develop event-driven solutions using modern messaging technologies.
• Participate in architecture discussions and contribute to technical decision-making.

Cloud & Infrastructure

• Develop and deploy applications within AWS cloud environments.
• Support containerised workloads using Kubernetes and Docker.
• Contribute to infrastructure automation and DevOps best practices.
• Ensure observability, monitoring, and operational excellence across services.

Collaboration & Delivery

• Work closely with Product Managers, Engineers, QA Engineers, Designers, and Business Stakeholders.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies including stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives, and technical refinement sessions.
• Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across engineering teams.

Technical Leadership

• Act as a subject matter expert within the engineering team.
• Mentor junior developers and support knowledge sharing.
• Promote engineering standards, code review best practices, and software craftsmanship.
• Drive innovation and continuous improvement within the Back End engineering chapter.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong commercial Experience with Java development.
• Deep knowledge of Spring Boot and/or Micronaut frameworks.
• Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Strong understanding of software design patterns and distributed systems.
• Experience with AWS services and cloud-native architectures.
• Hands-on Experience with Kubernetes and Docker.
• Knowledge of messaging technologies such as Kafka and event-driven systems.
• Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.

Desirable

• Financial services, fintech, or regulated industry Experience .
• Experience building highly secure applications.
• CI/CD pipeline development and automation expertise.
• Experience with observability tooling, monitoring, and logging platforms.
• Understanding of data-driven product development and analytics
