Back End Developer

Salt is currently hiring a Backend Engineer for a client of ours in the Netherlands on a Full-time basis.

Backend Engineer - TypeScript / Node.js (TS-PERN Stack)

Location: Hybrid within the Netherlands (candidates may be based anywhere in NL) - mainly remote.

Role Summary

Our client is seeking a highly capable Backend Engineer with deep expertise in modern TypeScript/Node.js environments. This role focuses on building scalable, reliable, and well-architected backend systems within a TS-PERN environment (TypeScript, PostgreSQL, Express, React, Node.js), with minimal exposure to frontend work.

The ideal candidate is someone who understands how to design and deliver robust APIs, structure backend services effectively, and work with data at scale - while upholding high standards of code quality, performance, and maintainability.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs (REST; GraphQL beneficial)
• Develop and optimise PostgreSQL database schemas and queries
• Implement server-side logic, authentication/authorization flows, and service orchestration
• Contribute to backend architecture decisions and technical direction
• Ensure reliability, performance, and clean coding standards across the platform

Essential Experience & Skills

• Strong, proven background in backend engineering
• Advanced proficiency with:
• TypeScript
• Node.js
• Express
• PostgreSQL
• Experience designing and documenting modern APIs
• Solid understanding of backend best practices, clean architecture, and scalable system design
• Comfortable working in a fully TypeScript-based environment

(React knowledge is a bonus but not required - this is a predominantly backend role.)
